BREAD EXCHANGE — WHAT TO BARTER FOR A LOAF OF BREAD

BREAD EXCHANGE — WHAT TO BARTER FOR A LOAF OF BREAD

Malin loves bread. Her artisan baking is truly unique, just like her idea behind The Bread Exchange. Malin passionately bakes sourdough bread (sans yeast) from finest and usually organic ingredients. She normally produces more than enough for herself, so in 2007 she started to swap her loaves for different goods and services. It all started in her kitchen, experimenting with the color of the dough and the texture of the crust. Later she began to seek for international inspiration and knowledge, visiting bakeries across the globe, such as Manfred Enoksson’s, whom some consider to be Sweden’s best. Malin has traded her bread with over 1000 people around the world. Interestingly, many of the things she receives are used for new breads – homemade jam or vanilla from Madagascar – but she’s been given flowers, horse riding and guitar lessons too. If you’d like to try her bread and up for a barter, check out her blog or Facebook page. (Text: Milena Kalojanov / Photos: Andreas Alexander Bohlender (buttom right), Shantanu Starick (left))
