POLISH THURSDAY DINNERS: CULTURAL NETWORKING & CUISINE

POLISH THURSDAY DINNERS: CULTURAL NETWORKING & CUISINE

For just over three years, Polish Thursday Dinners have brought all sorts of Berliners together around a table of modern Polish cuisine. The brainchild of Julia Bosski, the cultural networking events that are her dinners present not only fantastic meals, but an exciting chance to meet new people and maybe, just maybe, be entertained by the whirlwind that is Julia — jazz singer and entrepreneur that she is. We’ve had the chance to attend a few of her fabulous dinners, and can’t believe we haven’t recommended it before. A large communal table buzzed to life as the seats were filled, Julia herself attending to the chef in the tiny open kitchen — drink in hand. Introducing herself and her concept to the crowd, her energy was overwhelmingly positive and extremely palpable — leading to many conversations being started among friends and strangers alike. PHYSICAL MEETS DIGITAL: ZEITGUISED & X-MAGAZINE

PHYSICAL MEETS DIGITAL: ZEITGUISED & X-MAGAZINE

Whether it’s lifelike animation, 3D design and printing, or augmented reality — the world is moving ever faster towards the intersection of what’s physical and what’s digital. Here to take that idea on headfirst is the award winning Berlin-based studio, Zeitguised — who produce exquisite realities which linger between art and design. In their fourth collaboration on “phygital (physical + digital)” objects, they’ve paired up with Japanese bag designer Toshiki Tagisawa and his label X-Magazine. Combining cutting edge digital manufacturing methods with Japanese craft, the Bagashi bags have a unique feature: they are all designed and made around a ‘hole’. The Zeitguised design algorithm produced unpredicted shapes that virtually cut through the bags (of course acting only as a window, not a real hole) and the rest is handmade by Toshiki and his team in Japan. In a limited edition of 100, in 5 color schemes, we can’t wait to see how this combination comes together. See them in person at the Bagashi bag launch at Firmament next Monday (15.1.2018) from 18h. Monday nights never looked so good. (Text: Massimo Hartmann / GIF: Zeitguised)

ASK HELMUT’S SURPRISE: SUREFIRE SPONTANEITY

ASK HELMUT’S SURPRISE: SUREFIRE SPONTANEITY

There are two types of people in this world: those who plan ahead, and those who wait until the last minute. There are benefits and downfalls on both sides, but now, we can all be a bit more spontaneous thanks to Ask Helmut’s Surprise — a blind date of sorts for great events all over Berlin. So how does it work? Head to Ask Helmut’s website and buy a pair of Helmut Surprise tickets for a night of your choosing. Then, all you have to do is wait. At noon on the day of your event, you’ll receive an email with all the details of your event, which could range from a big theater production to an intimate concert, a film screening to a fine artist performance. The events span disciplines but are all hand-selected by the Helmut team. With the holidays right around the corner, you can plan a fun evening out with a friend, or gift them a Surprise voucher so they can pick their own date and bring someone of their choosing. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but in this instance, I think your curiosity will only serve to excite. (Text: Devan Grimsrud / GIF: Ask Helmut)

KUSMI TEA — A GRAND OPENING FOR CHARITY

KUSMI TEA — A GRAND OPENING FOR CHARITY

With so many excellent coffee shops serving up perfectly poured lattes and third-wave filter coffees, it’s not news that Berlin has gone a bit coffee crazy in recent years. But what about the tea lovers out there? Where can we go for excellent tea, prepared properly and served at the right temperature? While there are a handful of shops, we find the best outcome for a nice cup o’ tea is to prepare our own at home. Showcasing countless varieties of teas, blends and infusions from black to green, herbal to fruit, a nice shop to pick up some warmth this season is Kusmi Tea. Celebrating the grand opening of its newest location here in Berlin on 15.12.17 — perfectly timed to coincide with the International Day of Tea — there’s no better day to refill your tea stocks, as Kusmi will offer 20% off your entire purchase (through 16.12.17) and donate 20% of their total grand opening revenue to Pink Ribbon Germany, a charity organization aimed to support breast cancer patients and increase awareness of the disease. Whether you’re tea inclined or just know someone who is, head to Kusmi Tea’s grand opening for tastes of their high-quality blends and recipes and support their charitable efforts, because after all — ‘tis the season for warm beverages and selfless holiday spirits. WILLNER BRAUEREI’S LAST STAND: LOST 48 HOURS ART FESTIVAL

WILLNER BRAUEREI’S LAST STAND: LOST 48 HOURS ART FESTIVAL

Since 2012, the old Willner Brewery in Wilmersdorf has served as an artist space, but — like much of the cultural monuments that make Berlin, Berlin — the brewery has been bought and will close its doors for good on 17.12.17. In one last stand to celebrate art in all its forms, the brewery will play host to the Lost Art Festival (15-17.12.17) — 48 hours straight of exhibitions, artist talks, live performances, cinema, and of course, dancing. Rooms that were previously inaccessible (even by the artists who used the space in recent years) will be opened up to the thrill seekers amongst us, while exhibitions will take place throughout the space. We’re intrigued by The Dark Rooms, which will cover 10 rooms over three floors — each room being individually staged by one artist. The tickets are free, but must be reserved ahead of time and are only available online in 12-hour time slots (you are free to come and go as you like during that time.) However, luckily for you, we have two pairs of exclusive 48 hour tickets to give away so you can take full advantage of the weekend to explore and take-in all types of art and inspiration. Email us your full name at win@ceecee.cc to enter, winners be notified by email tomorrow at noon — so don’t wait! (Text: Devan Grimsrud / Photos: Tadao Vern, Its The Vibe, WBB)
