PROSECCO, PASTA, PERSPECTIVES — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

PROSECCO, PASTA, PERSPECTIVES — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

April bids a fitting farewell with a weekend starting on Thursday (with a Spritz in hand). The Italian neighborhood café Backaro in Friedrichshain is launching its new happy hour series, which runs every Thursday from now on (24.04.2025). Choose from all types of Spritz, fine wines, and chilled Prosecco. Baked delicacies and other appetizers are also on offer — make Thursday a mini Friday! Anyone strolling towards Kreuzberg after a drink should stop at the Now Gallery on Hasenheide where Zwischen Beton & Boudoir, a project by sch², is open. The exhibition combines fashion, photography, film, and text, and shows the city from a female perspective: between resistance, change and the question of who owns public spaces. The exhibition was curated by Karla Schieferstein, and includes photographer Annette Hauschild, a member of the “Agentur Ostkreuz”. More than an exhibition, it’s an experience — a quiet space to look and stay. The next day (25.04.), things get even more Italian with warm, hearty plates. Schöneberger’s Ploetz not only cooks with dedication for Pasta Night, but with the soul. The pasta is so fresh that it’s still steaming when it arrives at the table. This time, homemade tortellini with three different sauces are on the menu, accompanied by selected natural wines, and the feeling of sitting in a small trattoria somewhere between Belziger Strasse and Bologna.

Anyone strolling through the city on Saturday evening (26.04.) can stop by the Kuppelhalle at Silent Green. A concert evening begins that feels less like a show and more like a ritual. Hüma Utku presents her new work Dracones, a dense sound journey through origins, motherhood and belonging, carried by electronic surfaces and archaic rhythms. She will be accompanied by British sound artist Blackbody Radiation, whose processed nature recordings make up the nuances. On Sunday (27.04.), visit In be tween noise – a tribute to Steve Roden — a quiet, eight-hour remembrance of the artist. Roden’s work unfolds over eight hours — fleeting, fragmentary and freely accessible. You can come, go, come back and hear what would otherwise be ignored. This Sunday (27.04.), Helka Ceramics Spring Market will bring more color to spring in Kreuzberg. The ceramics studio is bringing together a selection of Berlin labels and makers. Handmade ceramics will be stacked next to soft cotton fabrics and beaded accessories, accompanied by sweet pastries from Cakes Berlin and no doubt a chat or two at the coffee table. Between handmade treasures and afternoon sunshine, you can find exactly what you weren’t looking for but immediately fall in love with. A weekend that sounds good, tastes better, and broadens your horizons.

BETWEEN CHOCOLATE & SUBBASS: EASTER WEEKEND IN BERLIN

BETWEEN CHOCOLATE & SUBBASS: EASTER WEEKEND IN BERLIN

Some things are well hidden, but if you’re out and about in Berlin over the holidays, there’s plenty to discover. And we’ve got the clues. What would Easter be without chocolate? And what would chocolate be without a moment of reflection? With their Easter specialPars ensures the holiday is not just sweet, but also meaningful. For every set sold, €10 goes to Doctors Without Borders. Four fine varieties — like woodruff from the Schorfheide and elderflower with verjus — are handmade and lovingly packaged. If you order by Saturday (19.04.2025), you can pick up your chocolate box in person from their store on Grolmanstraße. Maybe make it part of a short Easter walk? And if you stroll a little further south, you’ll come across the vernissage You Left This / Geh nicht by Aubrey Theobald, opening Thursday (17.04.). On intimate terrain, the artist explores closeness and distance, longing and boundaries, blending the familiar with the unfamiliar. Through sculpture, installation, and video, she interweaves what is often contradictory — or silently coexisting. Until Easter Monday (21.04.), her works will be on view at Backhaus Projects, waiting to be discovered. Also until Monday (17.04.–21.04.), Bar Brass is serving up springtime dishes. While their usual lunch menu takes a holiday break, the restaurant inside the Bronzegießerei am Spreebord is offering an Easter five-course menu with extra flair: compositions of Jerusalem artichoke, morels, black truffle, and purslane that read like poetry. Fresh wines from Weinservice Berlin are poured by the glass.

Prefer fine frequencies to fine food? You’ll find what you’re looking for on Good Friday at Refuge Worldwide. At Oona Bar, the radio station is hosting a B2B marathon — a day full of musical encounters and spontaneous DJ pairings. Through Saturday, around two dozen artists (including Mehmet Aslan and Femdelic) will share the decks, challenging and inspiring each other in real time. The format is open, admission is free — and as always at Refuge, the shared moment takes center stage: collective, curious, in motion. And for anyone ready to swap paper grass for petals, how about making your own Easter bouquet this year? At the Flower Arranging Workshop by Happy Plants and Rhi Dancey on Saturday (19.04.), a small group will gather to bind, pin, and celebrate what’s growing right now: seasonal flowers, blossoming branches, and textured greens in vibrant hues. A spring bouquet takes shape — not according to rules, but to intuition. Whoever attends, leaves with flowers in hand. Enough floral dreaming, back to the feast: If you can’t wait for the Easter hunt, just follow your nose down Skalitzer Straße. You’ll find what you’re looking for at dia’Z, where their Easter pop-up is happening on Saturday (19.04.). Expect wild, creative street food: tacos (classic and vegan), cocktails, and natural wines. Come hungry — your soul and stomach will thank you. Whether you’re walking, dancing, or feasting, this Easter weekend is waiting to be discovered.

SHUCK, SIP & SHOP — SPRING’S FRESHEST FINDS THIS WEEKEND

Good food, great vibes, and a little bit of treasure hunting — here’s what not to miss this weekend! Be sure to check out the Pre-Sale tonight. Spring is in the air and seafood is on the menu at Bubbles & Basslines with Oysters and Champagne accompanied by UK Garage — tonight (10.04.2025) in Kreuzberg. The menu features the finest oysters with zesty lemon and tangy mignonette: choose between Fine de Claire or Spéciale Gillardeau. For an extra treat, add a Bloody Mary shot or indulge in caviar. Not an oyster fan? Enjoy fish, shrimp, or vegetarian tacos, a duo of arancini with Parmesan & Truffle, or Mozzarella & peas, and fish cakes with mint chutney and salad. Also tonight is the Karton Salon at Noho, bringing you the opportunity to explore art in kartons and performances from a range of artists, accompanied by live upbeat music and a DJ. No entry fee, no excuses — just bring your own glass! Want to transform your space for spring? Then, head to the opening of ANOBJCT’s first store to shop for furniture, curated fashion, and jewelry. Old meets new in perfect harmony here tonight (10.04.), starting at 17h. On the lookout for special pieces, whether it is jewelry, accessories or vintage decorations? Another June & friends Market has you covered this Saturday (12.04.) with curated vintage objects and new collections, including handwoven baskets from Rayas Collective and timeless jewelry from Studio Ena.

Before heading to Another June & friends market, pay twogather a visit in Le Café Lacoste’s backyard, where they brew iced filter coffee and serve special seasonal drinks. If that’s not enough, Phong will prepare his tasty Miso Mushroom and Berry Crumble Focaccia to enjoy alongside. The pop-up starts at 11h and once it’s gone, it’s gone! Give your space a new look with Cropp Studios. They invite you to a curated fine arts print sale from Berlin-based artists this Sunday (13.04.). Meet the artists of this independent female-run studio and discover the stories behind their prints. Join us for the art, savor the oysters, and bring your friends to experience the best of what Berlin has to offer this weekend!

FOUR WHEELS GOOD, TWO WHEELS BETTER — E-BIKES FROM ESTONIAN BRAND AMPLER

FOUR WHEELS GOOD, TWO WHEELS BETTER — E-BIKES FROM ESTONIAN BRAND AMPLER

You’re running late. Google Maps says 35 minutes by U-Bahn, 20 by car and 28 by bike. Which do you pick? More and more commuters are leaning towards the latter option, swapping delayed trains and non-stop parking drama for the joy of pedal power. And it’s power that’s driving this trend: electric bikes in particular offer an actually viable alternative to car or train, even if you need to cross the whole town. One of the companies riding the wave is Ampler Bikes, an e-bike maker from Estonia. Aimed at the more design-conscious rider, the brand’s latest Nova and Nova Pro models are assembled in Estonia and avoid the chunky electric bike look by hiding the battery within the bike’s down tube. Both provide an advertised range of 50–100 km per charge which, uniquely, is done with a standard USB-C charger. The Pro version boasts upgraded components, including optional belt drive that promises easier maintenance. Ampler is hosting a launch event at their showroom on Yorckstraße this Friday and Saturday (11 & 12.04.2025) where you can drop by and test drive the models. If you have never experienced the breezy cruising of e-bike riding, it might be worth dropping by just to sample the thrill of overtaking all those cyclists who don’t have the benefit of an electric boost. Whoosh!

ON THE MOVE: PEOPLE, FASHION & THE BERLIN HALF

ON THE MOVE: PEOPLE, FASHION & THE BERLIN HALF

Whether fast or slow, this weekend is all about perseverance. And these tips will help you cross the finish line. The last word has not yet been spoken at Hamburger Bahnhof. On Thursday (03.04.2025), the talk series Crossroads: Literature Meets Art returns for its second round, exploring new perspectives on the intersections of art and literature. This time, multimedia artist Cemile Sahin and German Book Prize winner Tonio Schachinger meet in a space where photography, film, and novels collide with the world of video games. Sahin’s latest cinematic work, Road Runner, and Schachinger’s novel, Echtzeitalter, tackle themes of drone missions, video game aesthetics, Viennese boarding school life, and the desire to belong. Just drop by – admission is free! Kruut in Berlin-Mitte also embraces creative collaboration but at a slower pace. This weekend (04–05.04.2025), the wild herb specialists will host The Slow Label, a brand built on sustainable materials, mindful consumption, and transparent production processes. Their sample sale offers unique pieces created during the brand’s creative process — artifacts from photo shoots, archived gems, and one-of-a-kind items, some of which come with up to 60% discounts. Kruut’s wild herb products will also be available for purchase. The fashion theme continues on Saturday (05.04.2025), as Filter Magazine hosts the third edition of Filter Play at Kühlhaus.

This independent fashion magazine focuses less on trends and more on the people shaping the industry. Their stories unfold in the latest issue but also live at Kühlhaus, where the event will feature a magazine release, video screenings, live music, and exhibitions by artists like Maren Lilian and Laura Vifer. Expect an extensive lineup, drinks, and even tattoos. Naturally, everyone with a love for fashion is invited! If you’re already feeling the urge to move, you may know Optimistic Runners. This young sportswear brand merges high-performance functionality with modern silhouettes. To celebrate the half marathon and their running community, they’re hosting a shake-out run on Saturday (05.04.2025), followed by well-earned sandwiches from Romeo’s. A fair deal for those anticipating sore muscles. On Sunday (06.04.2025), they’ll help runners cool down with post-race drinks and a cozy film screening. Meanwhile, Adidas and Ante are teaming up for a pop-up event. On Saturday, browse Ante’s new summer collection or customize a fresh pair of Adidas sneakers. Lap Coffee will be serving coffee and snacks, and on Sunday (06.04.2025), the collaboration continues with refreshments throughout the day. But before that, Sunday is all about running. The 44th Berlin Half Marathon kicks off with a staggered start between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column. The route winds west to Charlottenburg Palace, then southeast past the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, across Potsdamer Platz, past the City Palace, with a brief detour onto Karl-Marx-Allee, before returning Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate. Whether you’re racing, rolling, or cheering from the sidelines, best of luck to all participants!
