Holidays that fall on a weekend risk going unnoticed but this one stays loud. On Saturday (08.03.) feminist typography takes center stage as the collaborative book project Sex in Berlin: Guide to Love by Nike Wessel celebrates its release party at Studio36. Created in collaboration with authors, activists and figures such as Emilia Roig and Mithu Sanyal, the book explores the diversity of Berlin’s sex-positive movement through an intersectional feminist lens. Supporting brands like Einhorn and Missy Magazine will enrich the program with surprises throughout the event. Meanwhile, Culinary Kreuzberg is also buzzing on Saturday (08.03.) with a creative pop-up weekend at Sway Bar, themed “Small Plates for Sharing”. Ed Tejada, former head chef at Silo London, the world’s first zero-waste restaurant, joins forces with director and gourmet Chris Read to serve up seasonal, sustainable and fun sharing plates featuring fermented delicacies. For those who prefer a quieter way to mark the holiday, there’s an opportunity to reflect on feminist achievements or take a trip to Plänterwald. At the historic Eierhäuschen, visitors can listen to Berlin jokes from the GDR and post-reunification era.
For over 30 years, Kulturpark Plänterwald (later known as Spreepark) drew Berliners and visitors with its carousel, Ferris wheel and bratwurst stands. Now, the Erzählcafé at restaurant EI-12437-B in the Spreepark Art Space opens its doors every Saturday, offering a space for storytelling, conversation and nostalgia. Whether you’re there to listen or share your own tales, drop by! On Sunday (09.03.) the exhibition “Läuft. The Exhibition on Menstruation” bids farewell to the Museum of European Cultures with a finissage that brings together the voices that have shaped it. A collection of visitor letters will be performatively dissolved, creating a unique closing experience. The highlight of the final day? A visit from artist and marathon runner Madame Ghandi, who famously ran the 2015 London Marathon while menstruating. As a special guest, she will deliver a powerful rhythmic live performance featuring percussive elements on Sunday afternoon — a compelling reason to make the trip to Dahlem. Whether loud or quiet, activist or observer, feminism is diverse. And sometimes, it all starts with the choice of font.
