PRÊT-À-PARTY: OUR EVENT TIPS FOR FASHION WEEK

PRÊT-À-PARTY: OUR EVENT TIPS FOR FASHION WEEK

A Week for Berlin’s Fashion Elite? Not at all. These Berlin Fashion Week events are open to everyone, offering exciting insights into the latest textile trends and an opportunity to dance the night away. Under the motto “Unleashing Fashion Creativity – Connecting Cultures”, Fashion Park Lviv makes its debut in Germany, showcasing seven exceptional Ukrainian designers and their Fall/Winter 2025 collections. Organized by the West Ukrainian Fashion Industry Cluster (WUFIC) initiative, the event will feature brands like StarchakGushka and Marta Brown, inviting visitors to Torstraße 101 for inspiration, idea exchange and networking. Human Touch will also present its unique work, utilizing the “paintsewing” technique to highlight the human labor behind clothing production. Their “Human Touch Remedy” collection enhances vintage and second-hand pieces with special prints, which will be on display in Schöneberg for four days. For those seeking more than just visual impressions, the Metamorphosis talk series will explore themes of change. Mobility partner NIO Deutschland is hosting the Fashioncouncil talk series at NIO House, focusing on diversity, design and creativity in several engaging rounds. Additionally, the second edition of Black in Fashion kicks off on Friday (31.01). Six designers will showcase their work at the joint studio and showroom of Buki Akomolafeand Emeka.

Following the pop-up, a panel discussion will dive into the challenges Black creatives face in the fashion industry and explore mental health topics. The event will be moderated by Beatrace Angut Oola from Fashion Africa Now, and will wrap up with live DJ sets, free food and drinks. Meanwhile, Industrialkonzept on Karl-Marx-Allee is broadening the scope of Fashion Week by highlighting architecture, interiors and objects. Over three days, they will showcase special pieces, including The Broken Series by Gufram and Snarkitecture. The pop-up also features a unique listening room experience and complimentary drinks. And for those who’d rather swap the showroom and catwalk for the dance floor, Fashion Week’s festive closing awaits in Berlin Friedrichshain. Keyi Magazine will take over OXI on February 3rd, bringing fast beats and a stylish guest list, with Freddi K and others ensuring an unforgettable night. So, even if you can’t make it to the catwalk, you’ll still have plenty of reasons to celebrate during Berlin’s Fashion Week.

EARS, BELLY & BODY IN MOTION — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

EARS, BELLY & BODY IN MOTION — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

Fancy a pop-up dinner, a music festival or a calligraphy workshop? As with every week, the range of possible activities in this city is endless, and deciding what to do can seem impossible. That’s why we’ve hand-picked our top tips for the weekend and days following. Let’s start with Cielo: the wine bar near Ostkreuz invites you to enjoy a vegetarian sharing menu — available in Dry January style with non-alcoholic drinks or paired with wines. The menu includes grilled artichokes with cedro, bigoli with black truffle, and fig leaf and mascarpone mousse with saffron and white chocolate. The convivial atmosphere continues at Gastrobar van Hofen, which offers a culinary crossover of Khao Soi and Juju. On 26.01.2025, Chef Daniela and Sommelier Julia will combine Thai cuisine with selected natural wines. For music lovers, don’t miss Into the Open. The festival enters its third round under the theme “Rituals”. From 28.01. to 03.02., experience five concerts at Kühlhaus Berlin, each dedicated to reinterpreting classical music. For something different, check out the Against Interpretation Club (31.01.) at Ohm: a fusion of a group exhibition and a dance night. Eight artists will come together for an evening of music, performances and art. Things get hands-on at Paolo Pinkel as the venue celebrates the Lunar New Year in style. According to the Chinese calendar, the Year of the Blue Snake begins, and on 02.02., the bar will host three events: a calligraphy workshop to write down New Year’s resolutions, dumpling kneading inspired by grandma’s recipes, and more. Bring your friends or family and join the celebrations! Finally, Love Circus is throwing its Wedding Bash this weekend (25. & 26.01.) at the Kantgaragen-Palast. This event offers inspiration not only for weddings but your next big celebration.

TIPS FOR GOOD MOMENTS: OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE WEEKEND & A SMALL OUTLOOK FOR FEBRUARY

TIPS FOR GOOD MOMENTS: OUR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE WEEKEND & A SMALL OUTLOOK FOR FEBRUARY

If your New Year’s resolutions are giving way to January doldrums, allow us to brighten your month with some tips for food, fun and another shot at NYE. First up, a special trip to the cinema: 85-year-old DJ Vika from Warsaw will be attending Kant Kino in Charlottenburg tomorrow (17.01.2025) for a screening of the documentary in which she stars. Vika! – directed by Agnieszka Zwiefka, also in attendance – tells the story of how the former prison educator (real name: Wirginia Szmyt) shunned a quiet retirement to learn the art of DJing. Another culture highlight is at ChertLüdde in Schöneberg, where a retrospective exhibition celebrating the work of the Berlin artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (1932–2024) runs until 22.02. Wolf-Rehfeldt, known for her carbon copies and typewriter works, was a key part of the postal art movement. There’s more art over at Haus Kunst Mitte, the Altbau-housed art space that’s actually in Moabit, where tomorrow (17.01) States of Uncertain Domesticities is opening. The multimedia “performative exhibition” explores themes of home and housing through works, interventions and performances from 44 international artists.

If your memories of New Year’s are already fading, then perhaps it’s time to embrace Lunar New Year, which this year is celebrated on 29.01. Food is usually the focus of this Asian holiday, so get your reservations sorted with a traditional Korean dinner of Tteokguk (rice cake soup) at Dotori, the anju bar (think Asian tapas) in Weißensee. The four-course New Year’s dinner will be served between 30.01 and 02.02. Our final recommendation is also culinary: the Olive Oil Dinner, a five-course meal on 08.02 hosted by Chelsea Turowsky Studio in Wedding. Highlighting olive oil from Honest Toil, a producer of cold-pressed oils from small Greek farms, the set menu will be accompanied by drinks by DJ and foodie Cate Gowers. You can book a place via Instagram or email and start filling out your February calendar…

FOOD FOR THE BELLY & BRAIN — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

FOOD FOR THE BELLY & BRAIN — OUR TIPS FOR THE WEEKEND

When the first week of January is over and you start to wonder whether it’s still okay to say “Happy New Year”, some of us feel our feet tingling again. Where to, where to? For those of you itching to get out and about this weekend, here are our recommendations for you… Tonight (09.01.2025) at 7 pm, the group exhibition “UnNatural Encounters” opens at Silent Green. It’s about (it couldn’t be more relevant) data and empathy, art and technology and, of course, visualization. The whole thing takes place in cooperation with the “European Media Art Platform” and Transmediale, and if you can’t make it tonight, you can see the exhibition until 19.01. On Saturday (11.01.) there’s something for your ears and stomach at Kreuzberg listening bar, Unkompress. From 11 am to 11 pm, there will be food and drinks. The creator of “Perhaps Today“, a café from Seoul, will bring her culinary reinterpretation of Korean fermented flavors. there’ll be sandwiches, soup and cookies, coffee and cool drinks. Afterward, head to Charlottenburg: at Pied-à-terre, shooting star Neda Aydin opens with new works in a just-right-but-not-too-smooth aesthetic. On Sunday (12.01.), the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection presents art from over a hundred years ago: in the group exhibition “Evil Flowers” — which explores the influence of Baudelaire’s “Les Fleurs du Mal” — there is much to discover. Afterward, perhaps a walk through the Charlottenburger Schloßpark or a stroll down Kantstraße? We heard Lon Men is open again. And then, we hate to say it, the weekend is already over.

Oh, and for those who prefer to cook for themselves, next Sunday (19.01.), Miso Miso is giving a workshop at Soi & co.in Linienstraße on how to make perfect miso, which you can take home with you. There will be snacks, green tea, different types of miso to taste and a sweet surprise. Who can resist? So get out your pen and mark your calendars: the year fills up faster than you think.
