20 YEARS, 20 CITIES, 20 DESIGNS — UCON ACROBATICS CELEBRATES TWO DECADES WITH AN EXHIBITION OF LIMITED EDITION BAGS

20 YEARS, 20 CITIES, 20 DESIGNS — UCON ACROBATICS CELEBRATES TWO DECADES WITH AN EXHIBITION OF LIMITED EDITION BAGS

We are the biggest Ucon Acrobatics fans under the Berlin sun – or perhaps the Californian sun? In the 20 years since its founding, the Berlin brand has spread all around the world. Whether on the Shinkansen in Tokyo, the subway in New York City or the Paris Metro – Ucon Acrobatics packs can be spotted on the backs of city dwellers all over. To celebrate two decades, the brand are releasing collab collection with 20 artists from 20 countries. This creative diversity will be on show in 20 cities, from New York and Rio to Tokyo, Tel Aviv and London. That’s not to forget the brand’s home turf in Berlin, where tomorrow (12.11.2021) you can check out a special exhibition conveniently located a stone’s throw from the Cee Cee office on Leipziger Straße. You can view all the latest designs from the “Motif” collection including my favorites: the humorous emoji design by our friends from Grilli Type, a mystical pattern by Polish illustrator Ada Zielińska and the iridescent forms from Japan’s Takahiro Yasuda. Cooler still is the fact that all the bags are made from recycled PET. And if those designs aren’t to your taste, there’s always our own contribution: the Cee Cee x Ucon Acrobatics Capsule Collection.

FØRMPROJEKT X STUDIO HILAL: POP-UP EVENT WITH COLORFUL BLANKETS AND SILK DESIGNS

FØRMPROJEKT X STUDIO HILAL: POP-UP EVENT WITH COLORFUL BLANKETS AND SILK DESIGNS

Following a journey that brought them from Barcelona to Berlin, in June 2021 Førmprojekt founders Nina and Ignacio gave their online store a physical space when they moved into a courtyard shop in Kreuzberg. There you can browse through the pair’s hand-picked accessories and interior design pieces: curved candles, ceramics and hand-woven rugs – all curated from up-and-coming designers and artists. The duo have now realized another of their goals, namely to collaborate with creatives and artists to create small product runs. Launching at a special event in the shop tomorrow and Saturday (05 & 06.11.2021) their first collaboration is with Barcelona-based illustrator, ceramicist and close friend Esther Lara, with whom they have developed the Las Margaritas Blanket. Available in two versions, this wooly throw is a homage to carefree summers and is perfect for getting cozy on cold autumn days.

Also joining the pop-up are sisters Zuhra and Moshtari from Studio Hilal with a collection of their printed silk scarves. The limited collection, which can be worn or hung on the wall, is named Mehmooni – a Farsi word describing a gathering of family and friends over good food. With their scarves, the sisters have captured these good vibes. For a nice get-together of your own, drop by the pop-up and get yourself some German-Spanish-Persian inspiration. And there’s more: you can look forward to small discounts on the Førmprojekt range.

DRINKS, BEATS AND CUTTING-EDGE TECH DISCOVERIES — DRIVE LIVE NETWORKING EVENT

DRINKS, BEATS AND CUTTING-EDGE TECH DISCOVERIES — DRIVE LIVE NETWORKING EVENT

He’s usually busy bringing dancefloors to life and getting partygoers moving with his electronic music. But tonight DJ Sascha Braemer is swapping renowned club stages for a slightly different venue: the Drive Live Lounge on Friedrichstraße. The occasion is an after-work networking event where you can discover the mobility tech of the future whilst enjoying music, drinks and good conversation. The night offers a rare chance to experience a small and intimate gig with the DJ, who has been a fixture of Berlin’s techno scene since the 90s. Before starting out in music, the Berlin-born DJ worked in the motor vehicle field, making this tech-focused night the perfect fit. With lots to hear, see and do, it’s just what an autumnal Thursday calls for. And since Thursday is the new Friday, you can treat it like an early intro to your weekend.

THE FUTURE IS AFRICA FILM FESTIVAL — A CINEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE CONTINENT AT BABYLON KINO

THE FUTURE IS AFRICA FILM FESTIVAL — A CINEMATIC JOURNEY THROUGH THE CONTINENT AT BABYLON KINO

There is a tendency to under-represent Africa’s true size – both on the world map and in terms of the continent’s myriad languages, customs, and emotional experiences. Luckily you have the opportunity to embrace what the continent has to share at The Future is Africa, a nine-day film festival at Babylon Kino in Mitte (27.10–04.11.2021). Specially made for children and young people but equally interesting to adults, the program consists of 30 films curated by Guyanese-born Brit June Givanni, a specialist in Pan African cinema whose aim is to share the African experience from a child’s perspective. Accompanied by panel discussions, the selection of films offers a taste of the estimated 2000 languages spoken across Africa (screenings are subtitled). New releases complement archive finds, with highlights including the German premiere of the 2021 drama “Conviction: The Case of Stephen Lawrence” and the 1966 short film “Jemima & Johnny”. The venue for all this is Babylon Kino, an iconic theater that’s always worth a visit.

CRITTERS AND CREATIVITY: SCIENCE MEETS SHOWMANSHIP AT THE MUSEUM FÜR NATURKUNDE

CRITTERS AND CREATIVITY: SCIENCE MEETS SHOWMANSHIP AT THE MUSEUM FÜR NATURKUNDE

A science-packed variety show? Sounds like “edutainment” at its best. Fun learning is what Glitzern & Denken, the online event series from the Museum für Naturkunde, is all about. This nature-packed YouTube program is a collaboration between researchers from the museum and performers from Friedrichshain-based Salon Fähig, an arts ensemble which blends science and culture. But the stars of these livestreamed shows aren’t human: that role goes to some altogether smaller creatures. The theme here is “Legged” and it’s insects that take center stage – a fact that’s no surprise since the Museum für Naturkunde has a collection of more than 15 million buggy specimens. You can expect a thrilling adventure into the insect world that takes you from the bizarre to the otherworldly. And whether it’s beetles or bees, you are guaranteed to pick up some fun facts about our invertebrate friends along the way. The shows – some of which are held in English – will be streamed on the Museum’s Youtube channel.
