MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM FRAMES AT FRAMEWORKS — RECOMMENDED BY BIANCA KENNEDY

MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOM FRAMES AT FRAMEWORKS — RECOMMENDED BY BIANCA KENNEDY

As an artist, I find framing to be one of the most expensive and unsatisfying parts of my work. So I was all the more pleased to discover Frameworks via the Saloon Berlin artist network. This year, the Kreuzberg framing provider has launched the Neukölln Britz-based “The Open Studio“, letting you learn to frame pictures yourself with no previous experience required. Located in a charming Industriehof, the space offers work stations for rent with instructions and staff on hand to advise the best frame for a given piece. Once you decide, the materials are prepared for you by the studio team: all you have to do is assemble them at your work station. Managers Claire and Barbara are also available for more in-depth tuition: besides renting work stations, the duo offer intensive four-hour DIY courses that explain the basics of frame making. If, on the other hand, you don’t want to get hands-on, you can head to the Frameworks shop in Kreuzberg where you can order custom-made frames or buy one of the ready-made recycled wood options.

A SATURDAY POP-UP MARKET BY GÖRLI — SEVEN BERLIN DESIGNERS AT THE FVF FRIENDS SPACE

A SATURDAY POP-UP MARKET BY GÖRLI — SEVEN BERLIN DESIGNERS AT THE FVF FRIENDS SPACE

When it comes to small design labels that don’t have a physical shop, your best chance to get an in-person glimpse is at a pop-up. With Christmas fast approaching, the latest pop-up event at the FvF Friends Space comes right on time. Seven independent labels from Berlin have joined forces for the Saturday market (11.12.2021) which will include music and refreshments. Besides ceramics and jewelry, you’ll find floral arrangements by Studio Linné plus brands like Truongii, whose crocheted hats we’re in love with. Founded in 2018, the fashion and textile studio is all about blending playful colors with sophisticated details, with embroidered shirts and felted loafers that are great fun. If you fancy a mug-shaped gift, look no further than Claï Studio, the ceramic studio run by architect Stefanie Lennartz. Her sleek vessels are perfect for your morning cortado and impress with their minimalist appearance. For wine-based refreshment, check out the range from natural wine project Nature’s Calling, whose limited-edition wines are sourced from young German winemakers. Whether you’re looking for gifts for your loved ones or just want to treat yourself, the Friends Space is the place to head this Saturday.

LABELS — DISCOVER BERLIN’S BEST BRANDS AND GET THEM DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR BY BIKE. JOIN THE WAITLIST NOW!

Since 2011, we at Cee Cee have had the goal of bringing the best places, people and products to our readers via our online channels. Now we’re going one step further by bringing our favorite things right to your doorstep with our partnership with Labels. Launching in 2021, the Berlin start-up supports creatives and brands by making their products more accessible. Soon available as an app, Labels delivers fashion, accessories, beauty and magazines from forward-thinking Berlin brands to your door within 30 minutes. It’s not just about convenience though: the platform also puts sustainability front and center with an emissions-free delivery concept.

The app is about to go live and we are very pleased to invite you, our readers, to be the first to try it. To join, add your name to our waitlist. Besides partnering with Labels, our sister agency Cee Cee Creative created the logo and branding and Cee Cee is also a co-founder alongside initiators Maxime and Romy. Together we want Labels to become a platform that offers much more in the future, and we have already teamed up with some brands from the Cee Cee cosmos that we love. You can look forward to fashion from Afora and Anekdot, care products from Fine Cosmetic and pottery sets from Clayground. For a sneak peek, check out the Labels Instagram.

FROM ISTANBUL TO BERLIN: HANDPICKED FASHION AND HOME DESIGN AT SOUQ DUKKAN

FROM ISTANBUL TO BERLIN: HANDPICKED FASHION AND HOME DESIGN AT SOUQ DUKKAN

Sited amongst quaint bars and restaurants in Kollwitzkiez is Souq Dukkan, a pretty, glass-fronted shop that is dedicated to curating design objects, fashion pieces and homeware items made by small artisans. Opened in September 2021, the store is the Berlin outpost of the Istanbul brand created by writer Yaprak Aras. Having worked for the likes of Vogue Turkey, Aras decided to switch focus in 2014 when she began selling vintage clothes in an Istanbul market. Out of this came the Souq project, whose aim is to give designers and brands a way to reach discerning design fans. Regular pop-ups, including at Soho House, followed before Aras opened up a shop of her own. We dropped by the Berlin store’s launch in September and were particularly intrigued by Krop Knives, a range of beautiful knives handmade by Istanbul-based craftsman Sinan Tansal (who, incidentally, is also a dentist and musician).

The knives feature handles made from all manner of recycled materials, from old skateboards to electronics and even used coffee beans. Other highlights in the collection include stunning ceramics by Istanbul-based Pinar Yegin, plates from Fil Ceramics from Bavaria, and dreamy dried flower arrangements by Berlin’s own Garden State Candles. Once you’ve picked out some pieces to give your home a fresh update, don’t forget to check out the shop’s organic wine collection. Cozy weekends at home: sorted!

THIS PLACE — CBD-INFUSED LOTIONS AND BALMS TO SOOTHE BODY AND MIND

THIS PLACE — CBD-INFUSED LOTIONS AND BALMS TO SOOTHE BODY AND MIND

Even on the most stressful and chaotic of days, I never skip my self-care routine. Alongside staples I’ve been using for years, I have a rotating line-up of new products that I try, including most recently the attractive creams and oils from This Place. Each product from the Berlin brand is formulated with natural ingredients like blue tansy, cinnamon bark and arnica, as well as cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive ingredient of the cannabis plant. The philosophy here is to support holistic well-being, and the range includes skin care products such as the revitalizing “The Evening Glow” facial oil but also soothing and relaxing balms to relieve menstrual or muscle pain and aid sleep.

The brand’s integration of medicine and cosmetics came from Laura Simonow, who was a clinical researcher at the Charité for five years before joining forces with Sanity Group to launch This Place in 2020. If you want to try out these products in smaller sizes, consider the starter set, which contains four creams (The Hug, The Good Night, The Glow, The Blissful Day) that come in minimalist hemp-based packaging. Having tried them, I can hardly imagine my routine without the anti-inflammatory “The Glow” face cream or “The Good Night”, with its calming melatonin. Which one will be your new cure-all?
