JASEMIN UYSAL RECOMMENDS: VOM EINFACHEN DAS GUTE

JASEMIN UYSAL RECOMMENDS: VOM EINFACHEN DAS GUTE

Quality over quantity is the principle embodied in Vom Einfachen Das Gute. The focus of this little deli is excellence — as is evidenced by the variety of meats, cheeses, bread, wine and coffee on offer here. Think rare ripened Nero di Parma, Pecorino wrapped in fig leaves, or locally-brewed beer from Flessa Bräu. Owners Manuela Rehn and Jörg Reuter set out to establish the kind of store they themselves would want to shop in — which also led them to host once-monthly culinary evenings, which see the deli’s doors stay open later than usual. Visitors then have the chance to get to know the stories behind the products they’re sampling. Manuela and Jörg often visit the farms and fields from which their delicacies come, which allows them owners to stay close to, and continually support, the young manufacturers and small businesses they work with. KOCHTAIL — EVERYTHING YOUR KITCHEN NEEDS AND MORE

KOCHTAIL — EVERYTHING YOUR KITCHEN NEEDS AND MORE

When my son asked for an ocean-themed birthday cake, I went running around town looking for blue food dye. I ended up at Kochtail and found several shades of blue in paste, liquid and powder forms. This Mitte store is your one-stop shop for any and all kitchen and bar supplies you may need. Stacked floor-to-ceiling with over 3,800 different products, the store may seem overwhelming at first. But trust me, you’ll find what you are looking for and more — from myriad cookie cutters and icing nozzles to rare OXO and Riess products, measuring cups, Lodge and De Buyer cast iron pans, mint julep cups, bread proofing baskets and giant ice cube trays to kitchen staples like KitchenAid stand mixers and Vitamix blenders. Serious hobby chef and owner Joe Diliberto, an American expat, chose to follow his passion and retired early to open up this treasure trove of delights. His focus is on European- and German-made items, especially handmade or high-quality goods. If you get lost in the labyrinth, just ask one of the staff to help you. They are experts in cooking and baking, and friendly to boot. (Text: Rei Matsuoka / Photos: Pamina Aichhorn)

Adopting a truly collaborative spirit, Hien Le led the creative direction of Yun’s FW18 collection. Entitled “Hana”, it embodies contemporary Asian aesthetics with a Berlin attitude. In addition, Hien Le’s FW18 collection will be available for purchase at a two-day pop up at Yun’s store (4.-6.10.2018). Get in early for the launch event tonight (4.10.) at 19h — accompanying elevated adornment options for face and body will be tunes by DJ Robbie Russell, plus refreshing drinks — and to top it all off, 20 % off on every pair or piece in both FW18 collections. CLICK & SURR — CAPTURING THE ZEITGEIST IN ANALOGUE

CLICK & SURR — CAPTURING THE ZEITGEIST IN ANALOGUE

Entering Click & Surr feels like stepping back in time. In the stucco-decorated rooms with their original tiles from the 1880s, analogue photography is still alive. For just over one year now, the shop has been selling a variety of analog camera models (from 35mm and medium format to Super 8), offering a quality repair service and developing photo negatives the traditional way. With Click & Surr, owner Jürgen Lossau has his finger on the pulse of the times. While everything around us is becoming more and more digital, a societal longing for the technology and aesthetics of decades past has quietly been emerging. No wonder: analog photography is neither about perfection, nor about an infinity of possibilities. It is rather the careful selection of the motif – and at times the unpredictability of the end result — that gives what it captures authenticity, and an irreplaceable kind of magic. CHARLOTTE RAUSCH RECOMMENDS: NEUZWEI VINTAGE STORE

CHARLOTTE RAUSCH RECOMMENDS: NEUZWEI VINTAGE STORE

The vintage store Neuzwei in the heart of Weserkiez is an exceptionally beautiful place for showcasing clothing. The concept was realized by owner Barbara Molnar, who started the business in 2016 with hand-picked vintage pieces in a near-new condition. The clothes and accessories are of impeccably high quality and the selection is a testament to Barbara’s sophisticated taste — with a focus on classics that are easily combined, such as a pair of 501 Levis or a white silk blouse. Her offering of timeless pieces contributes to sustainable consumption, the driving aspect behind her approach to valuing both fashion and the environment. Barbara exudes warmth and her innate feel for design has given rise to a store with a feel-good atmosphere. The pieces on display are thoughtfully selected, and the wooden furniture embellishing the space was designed by the owner herself. Every visit is an aesthetic enrichment for the senses, and it is thanks to Barbara’s unique touch that Neuzwei is a local treasure. (Text: Charlotte Rausch / Photos: Neuzwei)
