KNOK STORE: CONTEMPORARY KOREAN DESIGN AMBASSADORS

KNOK STORE: CONTEMPORARY KOREAN DESIGN AMBASSADORS

It all began with a couple of backpacks — from hyped Korean brands Gear3 and Rawrow. When Haelan Kim and Inti Castellazzi started importing select fashion items by South Korean labels to Europe, they soon realized they’d found a niche in bringing sleek, high tech design products from Seoul to Europe — for which demand was high. The breadth of their offerings kept expanding, and in 2016 Knok was launched online. Since June 2018, Knok Store is now also situated in a charming, light-flooded Altbau near Südstern, with poured concrete floors and custom-made display cases. Their curated selection — from sunglasses (Yun) and fashion (In Silence) to living and tech accessories (Craft Combine, Dear Maison), showcase the best of contemporary, minimalist South Korean design. You’re invited to linger as you browse — Knok is also an exhibition space for emerging Korean artists, a café and an event space. From backpacks to full-blown design empire, this duo of South Korean design ambassadors shows no sign of slowing down. (Text: Anna Dorothea Ker / Photos: c/o Knok Store)

RETHINKING THE MODERN RETAIL EXPERIENCE: MELAGENCE STORE

RETHINKING THE MODERN RETAIL EXPERIENCE: MELAGENCE STORE

They say Moabit’s on the rise, and with it, a new concept for brick and mortar retail. Just opened in the freshly renovated A Bit Mo’ Altbau complex is Melagence Store, founded by the eponymous agency in July 2018. Featuring a rotating selection of collections in the agency portfolio, Melagence was founded to allow designers and brands to share their own voices and visions with their clientele. That might take the form of a designer brunch with Bananatime or a salon conversation with Parisian designer Mathieu de Menonville — the point is to break down the barriers between maker and wearer, to exchange inspiration and ideas and to rethink the future of fashion retail. The current rotation, “The Holiday Edition”, features womens- and menswear from the likes of Mara Hoffman, Sunno and Club Petanque, and from 17.9.-12.10-2018, “The Men’s Essential Wardrobe Collection” will take over with a menswear-only selection of Joseph, Éditions M.R and Band of Outsiders pieces.
