CRAVERS — VEGAN SNACKS AND SPREADS MADE WITH FAIRLY-SOURCED HAZELNUTS FROM ANATOLIA

There is a strong tradition of hazelnut cultivation in northern Anatolia, Turkey. It’s a place that has grown them for more than two thousand years, focusing on the most delicious variety, “tombul”. You can taste the results of this heritage closer to home thanks to Cravers, a Berlin brand that turns hazelnuts into handy snacks and spreads. Founded by nut fans Ozan Akkoyun, Yağmur Ruzgar, Arda Aşkın and Ersoy Kiraz in 2021, the company sources its hazelnuts from a women-run farming collective in Anatolia. The range includes a delicate, crunchy hazelnut butter – ideal for morning cereal or devoured as a post-dinner treat. Then there’s my personal favorite: the cacao spread, which adds chocolate to the mix (though it’s still 80 percent hazelnut), giving it just the right balance of bitter and sweet flavors. I add it to my overnight oats for an oh-so-simple breakfast. For on-the-go snacks, there’s the energy balls, which come in coconut, cocoa and crunchy varieties. Whichever you go for, these fairly produced treats are tasty, filling and guilt-free.
