Democracy is crumbling. It once felt like something that happened elsewhere — but now, it’s on us to defend it, right here at home. Openness, freedom of speech, diversity — these values shape Berlin every day, thanks to the people from all over the world who live here. But many of them won’t have the right to vote in the upcoming German federal election this Sunday (23.03.2025). What they can do — and what we all can do — is take a stand. Through design. Design Democracyis a self-initiated, non-partisan, and non-commercial project built around one idea: using the power of design to uphold democratic values such as equality, freedom, and humanity — just as they are enshrined in Germany’s constitution. On its platform, designers from diverse backgrounds share free-to-download visuals that make a statement. It’s a project we fully support. And even if you can’t or don’t want to contribute anything: check out the platform — you might find a design that speaks to you. Maybe Clara Birkmann’s “Willst du mit mir wählen gehen?“, Studio Pandan’s “Vielfalt gewinnt“, or Büro Gestalten’s “Democracy forever ‘n’ ever“.
