DIENER TATTERSALL — SERVING CLASSIC GERMAN DISHES

Around the turn of the 20th century, this red brick building on Grolmannstrasse was a casino and restaurant for the “Tattersall of the West” (a riding school), where society ladies would treat themselves to a glass of champagne after their ride. In 1954 the restaurant was taken over by Franz Diener, a former German heavyweight champion, and quickly established itself as an artists’ bar. Today the walls are still covered with numerous portraits of artists with affinity for boxing as well as Diener’s famous homemade liver pâté. You will find traditional and classic German dishes like rissoles, potato salad, and Königsberger Klopse (German meatballs) with mustard sauce. The food here is particularly delicious since it is served by Berlin’s most charming waitresses.
