Literature and poetry make for a great evening in, but it can also get you off the couch. After 25 years since the first German-language Poetry Slam in Germany, more specifically, in Berlin, took place, Slam is back: from the 19-26.10.2019 the capital city will be celebrating the 23rd German Poetry Slam Championships, presented by the Irish Whiskey Tullamore D.E.W. Well-known poets in the scene will bring their literary talents to the big stage for Spoken Word and Poetry Slam. They’ll present texts written for the stage, performed with feeling or even fully staged. What are you waiting for? Best case scenario, you’ll get goosebumps hearing topics like politics and social justice confronted with a poetic flair –– in any case you’ll get entertaining, lively and inspiring content. And this year for the first time, Tullamore D.E.W. awards the Tully Award to the best female German-speaking poet of the year. You can follow the championships in a total of 18 events, beginning with the opening show on 19.10.19. The competition will continue with the preliminary rounds and semi-finals (21-24.10) up to the big group and individual finals, on the 25. and 26.10.19. The audience will decide the winner –– with thunderous applause, of course. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Fabian Stuertz, Marvin Ruppert)
