WELLENWERK: RIDE THE WAVES IN LICHTENBERG’S SURF PARADISE

WELLENWERK: RIDE THE WAVES IN LICHTENBERG’S SURF PARADISE

Are you dreaming of riding the waves on a surfboard? Well the good news is you won’t have to board a plane to Portugal or Bali to go surfing; you just need to hop on the tram to Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg. This urban surf paradise came about after seven friends decided bring the sport to their own city after coming back from a surf trip, creating their own surfing paradise at a former waterworks. This unique space features a stationary wave that can be used by complete beginners as well as professional surfers training for competitions. Up to ten pumps blast water onto an adjustable underwater ramp, generating waves of up to 1.60m. Cleverly, the warmth created heats the place, so the water itself doesn’t need heating, to the betterment of the environment. There’s another sweetener too: in 2020, Wellenwerk will be expanded with a cafe and shop. Time to take to your board and work up an appetite!
