A NEW POP-UP ART SPACE FOR ART WEEK: TAYLA CAMP OPENS CAMP SPACE WITH ROXANNE KRUMM AND SKAI

Since the 1990s, Mitte’s Brunnenstraße has been a place of upheaval, experimentation and beginnings. American curator Tayla Camp sensed this, too, and her newly founded pop-up gallery Camp Space will open on Wednesday (06.09.2023), inviting visitors on an odyssey of emotions and perceptions – namely those of the two artists Roxanne Krumm and Skai. The juxtaposition of these two perspectives is part of her ongoing pursuit of authenticity and emotional resonance, and is thus exemplary of the future programming. With Camp Space, she makes it her mission to make voices heard that are often underrepresented in the art world, focusing on the representation of BIPOCs and FLINTA*. “Is It No More Beautiful Than That?” describes the journey of two distinctive artists whose creative paths meet at the crossroads of disillusionment and soulful discovery. The title of the exhibition derives from a quotation from Thomas Mann’s story “Disillusionment”, which is linked to the core theme of the exhibition.

Roxanne Krumm’s brushstrokes weave an impressive tapestry of raw emotion. Her canvases are a play between light and shadow, a metaphor for the complexity of personal growth. Skai’s works complement the introspection of art with meditative introspection. With meticulous attention to detail, she creates complex worlds that engage viewers in contemplative narratives. Tayla Camp’s new Camp Space reflects her passion for art that crosses, explores and redefines boundaries. The gallery celebrates a diverse, youthful program that appeals – even in terms of price – to both seasoned collectors and newcomers. At a time when the art world is turning to new narratives, Camp Space is thus both a test and proof of the transformative power of expression. “Is It No More Beautiful Than That?” is on view through 02.10.2023. And as a note on transparency, our design team at Cee Cee Creative had the wonderful task of creating the visual identity of this new art space – creating our share of visibility and diversity in Berlin’s art landscape. Visibility is something we would like to create with this contribution as well, naturally, and we look forward to engaging in conversation at the opening.
