STRIKING CERAMICS & GLASSWARE GALORE — BISCUIT CHINA

When both Vogue and the New York Times have headlines that scream, “Pottery Is the New Yoga” and, “Pottery is the New Pilates” respectively — it’s not hard to get the message. But Karo Borsch, owner and creative director of Biscuit China — open since November 2017 — didn’t follow the trends to her love of ceramics, she simply discovered the tactility of clay while travelling and hasn’t looked back since. In Seville, Karo fell head over heels and wondered why there were no shops in Berlin where the handmade pieces from all around Europe could be seen, felt, and purchased — with no impending flights back home to block the way. With this in mind, the graphic and exhibition designer has curated a thoughtful selection of incredible pieces in her own shop, Biscuit China. There’s something for everyone to be found on the shelves of the small shop, from contemporary design objects by Atelier Polyhedre out of Nantes, France to fine porcelain vases from Rotterdam based Foekje Fleur, and nearly everything in between. Each piece is sourced directly from the independent makers themselves, and though they span the gamut in nearly everything from style to shape, texture to technique, Karo is there to tie them all together — completing the picture in a shop that I could spend hours in. Visit this Sunday (17.12.17) for special festive shopping with seasonal cookies and hot spiced wine, plus a small make-your-own ceramic workshop with Mikku Keramik.
