TUSCAN SCHIACCIATA & CANTUCCI: UN FORNETTO

TUSCAN SCHIACCIATA & CANTUCCI: UN FORNETTO

Walking into Un Fornetto, the unmistakable scent of freshly baked bread might lead you to close your eyes and inhale deeply — or at least that was our first instinct. The small café and bakery opened in July 2017, laying tantalizing sheets of schiacciata (also called focaccia) in their glass display case alongside golden Italian-style schockobrötchen and baskets nearly overflowing with the cutest cantucci we’ve ever seen — not to mention the glorious crusty Tuscan bread lining shelves in the back. Try a little sample and you’ll be hooked on the sweet, crunchy but not hard cantucci with a slight chew in the center that has to be one of the most satisfying textures ever. The friendly faces behind the counter will tell you all about the options if you’re looking to make your own Italian sandwich with their fresh schiacciata, or you can simply order a hefty slice studded with green olives or topped with sliced potato and rosemary (plus, it’s naturally vegan!). Delicious, easy and quick – Un Fornetto is our new go-to for a Tuscan taste escape. (Text: Devan Grimsrud / Photos: Emilie Wade)
