The summer months in Berlin go hand in hand with biking. Often, however, our bike isn’t exactly where we need it to be, plans change and the weather can be unpredictable. So how can we stay flexible when cycling? The answer: bike sharing. Berlin-based Byke provides bikes for hire, showing us how easy it can be: Their app locates all available bikes in your vicinity on a city map and — for the directionally-challenged — shows you how to reach your mode of transportation. You’ll be set to start your journey in no time, with at least 30 minutes at your disposal to get to where you want to be. As the bikes aren’t bound to a particular station, you’re free to park in any public place within the designated area. If the weather is so beautiful that a short ride turns into a spontaneous tour of the countryside, you can simply keep on pedalling, as the journey is automatically billed in 30-minute increments. So, dear Berlin weather, if you end up changing your untameable mind and let the sun re-appear from behind the clouds after a rainy morning, we’ll have our bykes at the ready.
