Scandal! One word, so many associations. Contrivance, entanglement, defeat, resistance, lust, suffering, fantasy, pleasure, delusion – the list goes on… All these can be witnessed in dance form at A Plot / A Scandal, a performance premiering at HAU Hebbel am Ufer tonight (20.10.2022). The production is the latest from choreographer and performer Ligia Lewis, who has danced in the likes of the Palais du Tokyo arts center in Paris. Lewis is responsible for the concept, art direction and production of the work, whose theme explores connections between narration, fantasy, moral authority and scandal. To witness it is to see a game of power, fantasy and storytelling unfold. For Lewis, scandal brings freedom – opening new spaces in our narrow minds and hearts. The show is danced with passion and features words in English. After its premiere there will be a party with beats by DJ Justin Kennedy so you can dance late into the night (scandal-free, of course). If you’re interested in hearing more about the work’s development, tomorrow’s performance (21.10) is followed by a talk with Lewis. She’ll chat about what you’ve just seen performed: a world of contrasts between infatuation and repulsion, action and scandal – with all its multilayered overtones.
