EMOTIONAL DETOX — A BOOK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND ASSESSING EMOTIONS

EMOTIONAL DETOX — A BOOK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND ASSESSING EMOTIONS

Feelings can be quite a challenge: you don’t always understand where they come from and why they emerge so suddenly. This is exactly where Emotional Detox can help. This short book, bound with a fine linen cover and gold embossing, offers help in identifying emotional states and their underlying causes. It was written by psychologist Laura Ritthaler, who runs a practice on Kollwitzplatz and wanted to be able to give her clients something to take with them after their sessions. The book centers on one question – how do I give myself what I need? – and is concise in its answer, at 144 pages. Encouraging and inviting, the tone is one of “life help” rather than traditional scholarly writing, resulting in a guide book that you can pick up and refer back to for small insights and a-ha moments. It’s structured according to needs, from the physical to themes like recognition and meaning. Each chapter begins with real-life examples and illustrates the associated emotions – both positive and negative – and there’s also a full training plan for those who want to get serious about sorting out their inner emotional life. If you are looking to better understand your needs and emotions, this book deserves a place on your shelf. It is, as Laura herself puts it, a “personal trainer for the psyche.”
