HENRIK MAULER RECOMMENDS: RESTAURANT VOLTA

HENRIK MAULER RECOMMENDS: RESTAURANT VOLTA

Coming from Torstrasse it feels like in deep Wedding when you find the flat pavilion in a Béton brut space station with a satellite dish facade. Here moustaches and fixies are still found in homeopathic doses. The interior style is Berlin school: minimal, calm and stylish. Many surfaces are left bare, without appearing old. The room is perfectly proportioned, the evening lighting spot on, and the little steam released from the open kitchen into the space is immediately translated by the palate into a request to order soon. Possible resistance is short-circuited with the Eschenbräu brewed in Wedding. The friendliness of the hosts is on the same level as Volta’s juicy burger whose meat, BBQ sauce and sweet buns are at the top of the Berlin burger league. The fries are julienned and therefore entirely crunchy – an instant addiction; a decent conversation can begin only after the bag has been emptied. Volta feels stunningly contemporary in all respects – if you think a casual London pub feel is incompatible with exceptional food and the “cool Berlin” style, you will be taught a lesson in a friendly, convincing way.
