MASQUERADE: ME COLLECTORS ROOM SHOWS CINDY SHERMAN

It’d be easy to accuse physician Thomas Olbricht of a penchant for the morbid; his collection, after all, includes skulls and dead matter that spans five centuries. For Berlin Art Week, the Me Collectors Room presents works by Cindy Sherman from the Olbricht Collection. Though Sherman’s masques are not quite as macabre, they are no less venerable than the collection from which they come. For years, Sherman has regularly transformed herself with make-up and props into forgotten movie stars, gothic Madonnas or circus clowns. The labels “feminist” and “concept art” are often attached to her work; watch out – things could get complicated and cerebral at the opening. But don’t overlook the humor in Sherman’s work. If you want to see for yourself, head over this Wednesday (16.9.2015). (Text: Philipp Hindahl / Photo:Courtesy Cindy Sherman and Metro Pictures, New York)
