PRETTY IN PINK: WANNSEE CONTEMPORARY GALLERY SHOWS THE COLORFUL WORKS OF NAVOT MILLER

It’s the colors that draw you right into the pictorial worlds of the young painter Navot Miller. His palette, which is somewhere between Pop and Expressionism, brings everyday scenes to vivid life. You can currently immerse yourself in this palette and Miller’s universe at the new Wannsee Contemporary gallery, located between Berlin and Potsdam. Founded by Avi Feldmann, who moved to the area in 2020 after working as a curator in Tel Aviv, New York and Dresden, the new art space has been showcasing emerging artists since last fall. This is all in close vicinity of established cultural institutions, such as the Liebermann Villa and the American Academy, on the historically significant Wannsee. The trip is worthwhile twice over: first, to experience Feldman’s bright gallery for yourself, and second, to discover the remarkable life story being told in Miller’s paintings. Miller, who grew up in an Israeli settlement on the West Bank, draws his inspiration from his own biography. His friends and lovers, his mother, and even images of himself appear again and again in his work. He uses childhood photos and iPhone footage as source material for his paintings, which he then reconstructs on canvas. The scenes are collaged memories of the different worlds in which he occupies and feels at home: the Jewish-Orthodox tradition of his childhood and queer Berlin, where he lives today.
