Arriving at Private View Coffee, a cafe on the corner of Schlüterstraße and Mommsenstraße in Charlottenburg, I was greeted by the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. Given I was on the hunt for a brew, I’d come to the right place. Since 2019, Igor Paasch and Carsten Prasse’s charming and unpretentious espresso bar has proven itself to be a perfect stop for a coffee, whether it’s an early-morning pick-me-up, a post-lunch espresso or a break between gallery visits. The key is the coffee itself: it has an uncomplicated chocolatey-nutty taste that is simply good. The beans, which come from Brazil, Guatemala and Ethiopia, are roasted in Berlin and form the basis of the in-house Private View Blend #1, which I buy as a gift for friends. In short: this Charlottenburg corner has all you need for a perfect coffee break out west.
