CRANE WATCH AT THE REST STOPS OF MIGRATION BIRDS

CRANE WATCH AT THE REST STOPS OF MIGRATION BIRDS

Every fall a grand spectacle takes place in the surrounding areas of Berlin. Thousands of cranes fly in an echelon migrating over Germany, and before the real flight begins, the birds stop at several locations to gas up and energize. One of these rest spots is Rügen in the Baltic Sea but quite a few are located around Berlin: Lake Gülper See in the west of Berlin and Linum in the area of Fehrbellin. As for us, we’ll be hitting the road northbound to Linumer Teichgebiet (pond area). An overwhelming sound made by the migrating cranes will welcome us there. The nearby corn fields have become a temporary home of a vast number of cranes as well. This will be an impressive experience not only for ornithologists and birdwatchers dressed up in green overalls. (Text: Milena Kalojanov)
