A naked man in the middle of withering nature: this is the poster for this year’s annual Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie graduation exhibition. In Wedding, some posters were censored with stickers covering the exposed penis. Is it too indecent still, too explicit? In fact the subjects, set between art and social criticism, by the Ostkreuz students are insistent, uncompromising and taboo-less. “Odessa liegt am Schwarzen Meer” (Odessa is located by the Black Sea) is the simple title of Stefan Wieland’s photography series which is unpretentious as the title: frozen in time are the images of a seaside resort that has lost its charm and gloss of its heyday. Besides the naked man on the poster, the series “I Can See You When My Eyes Are Closed” by Katharina Poblotzki portrays more people who look like characters out of a novel by Chuck Palahniuk. Altogether an intriguingly honest view of reality! (Text: Olga Schlosser)
