TASSENKUCHEN – HOMEMADE AMERICAN BAKED GOODS

TASSENKUCHEN – HOMEMADE AMERICAN BAKED GOODS

Finding great cupcakes and pancakes in Berlin is no easy task, especially if you are looking for that authentic American flavor – until now. There’s a place in Wedding where you can find both in one spot. “Tassenkuchen”, which is the literal translation of the word cupcake in German, is a café run by an American owner Paul and his German wife Tonia. Located on the lovely Malpaqueta Street, which is turning into a restaurant row in its own right with an ice cream shop, a wine shop, etc., Tassenkuchen offers fluffy light pancakes topped with classic maple syrup with homemade apple compote or bacon on the side. They have an all-you-can-eat special for 8 euros on Sundays that you can’t miss, but don’t forget to leave some space for the delicious apple crumple and the cupcakes! Cupcakes are offered with creamy chocolate or berries on top instead of the popular sugar frosting so they are not too sweet; and just like everything else offered there, cupcakes too are primarily made of regional and organic produce. There are also cookies and other American-style baked goods there. If you come in a large group, get the long table in the back room or enjoy the sun outside since there’s little traffic there.
