How do we get people to care about the environment? Are citizens’ assemblies a good way to rally around an issue? Do they actually change people’s minds? And what about cars? How do we get people out of cars and onto bikes? If you are somebody who works on or volunteers for climate issues, these are probably the sorts of questions that get you out of bed in the morning. They are also the sorts of questions being asked at the EU Climate Pact Annual Conference, held at Europäisches Haus in Mitte next Friday (22.11.2024). Aimed at environmental professionals and volunteers, the one-day event is being billed as a chance to get real-world answers to common challenges in climate engagement. In case you haven’t heard of it, the conference is the yearly get-together of the European Commission’s Climate Pact, which is leading the charge towards climate neutrality by 2050.
Opening with a discussion on sustainability in the music and event industry featuring EU Climate Ambassador Julian Vogel, the program (see here) includes talks by heavy hitters from the German climate field, including Minister of State Katja Meier from Saxony. Workshop highlights include a session with the Climate Alliance’s Julian Thoss, who will be sharing the best tools for promoting sustainable mobility in your local area. If you are looking to grow your tribe, the day also promises plenty of chances to network with other sustainability advocates. After all, it takes a village to save a planet, right?
