ANTIPODEAN BRUNCH WITH A SOUTHEAST ASIAN TWIST: YAME NUMNUMS OPENS IN NEUKÖLLN

A delicious experiment has been occuring in the space in front of Lavanderia Vecchia in Neukölln since October 2018. YaMe NumNums is cross-pollinating a classic Australasian-style brunch menu with flavors, ingredients, and recipes from Thailand, Cambodia, and other Southeast Asian countries. Savory french toast is topped with a fried egg and green onions. Kimchi is tucked between two wedges of brioche from Bread Station, and drizzled with ginger syrup for a sweet and spicy kick. The same brioche provides pillowy support for the creamy hollandaise of the Eggs Benedict, which sees a pair of delicately poached eggs floating over Thai water spinach, topped with organic bacon. The menu is a collaboration between two passionate chefs, My Linh and Koki, working together to craft kimchi omelettes, Thai sausages, concoct chai syrups, and curry pastes to infuse their dishes with unique flavor profiles. One of their main inspirations is owner My Linh’s mother and her famous rice-flour pancake recipe. Come by for coffee and brunch all week. (Text: Eric Bain / Photos: Pamina Aichhorn)
