CHÂTEAU ROYAL: FOR A STYLISH DRINK IN THE HOTEL BAR

CHÂTEAU ROYAL: FOR A STYLISH DRINK IN THE HOTEL BAR

Once the former home of the Stasi, the space was revamped and renovated to create a hip and fashionable boutique hotel, Château Royal, in the heart of Mitte. When walking into the bar, you’re greeted with positive affirmations such as “You sexy m***** f*****!!!!”. And you know what else is sexy? The elegant atmosphere, delightful cocktails and high-class service — whether you’re a hotel guest or not. Open from 12 pm to 22 pm, it’s a great meeting place for business or pleasure. Indulge in a three-martini lunch or catch up with friends for a post-work nightcap. Speaking of the drinks, the staff has an eye for detail. They put their spin on timeless classics and create delicious signature cocktails that are on par with the bar’s brand. So what drink should you try first? We suggest the Negroni Sous Vide 62, made with Freimeister Kollektiv Gin, Blood Orange, and Campari, which utilizes the popular bar technique to enhance the flavor profile. Or maybe the Naked & Famous or Paloma Royal are more to your taste. No matter what cocktail you choose, you won’t be disappointed. And because we all get a bit hungry while drinking, bar snacks such as olives or a Club Sandwich are available to curb your cravings. Château Royal is the perfect spot to unwind day or night.

WILD MEMORIES AS A VISUAL FEAST — THE EXHIBITION BLAST! BY FILMMAKER KARIM AÏNOUZ AT THE DAAD GALLERY

WILD MEMORIES AS A VISUAL FEAST — THE EXHIBITION BLAST! BY FILMMAKER KARIM AÏNOUZ AT THE DAAD GALLERY

In 2004, filmmaker and director Karim Aïnouz came to Berlin as a fellow of the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program and stayed. 20 years and many films later, the DAAD Gallery is showing his lesser-known photographic and installation works for the first time under the title BLAST!. The exhibition provides an insight into his intimate image archive, which has grown over decades: places, people, strangers, friends and, again and again, Berlin. The transformation of the city, Tempelhof Airport, the clubs. The four rooms are full of his life’s work, unmistakable imagery, queer aesthetics, delicate character studies, and complex explorations of themes such as origin and identity (his own Brazilian-Algerian-French identity and that of others). Video installations and images convey a longing for the past and future in equal measure. And for those who are not yet familiar with Aïnouz’s cinematic work, the neighboring fsk-Kino is showing a selection of his feature and essay films alongside the exhibition. The exhibition will run until 10.03.2024. And on Friday (16.02.) you can attend the artist talk and book launch from 7 pm.

A DECLARATION OF LOVE: HANDMADE JEWELRY FROM VEYIA BERLIN

A DECLARATION OF LOVE: HANDMADE JEWELRY FROM VEYIA BERLIN

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and this year Veyia is here to help you declare your love (the sustainable way), with a gift that will bring joy for years to come. In a world where trends change at a dizzying pace, the Berlin label embarked on a mission in November 2023 to craft jewelry that looks beautiful while keeping the environment in mind. The transparent creative process involves the initial designs sketched up in their Berlin studio and crafted into handmade gold and silver pieces. These exquisite pieces are made from recycled 18k gold vermeil and sterling silver, responsibly sourced from certified companies. The organic, flowing shapes of the jewelry allow for effortless and versatile layering, becoming life-long wardrobe staples. Their sustainability extends to their packaging as well: jewelry boxes are crafted from cardboard and paper replacing conventional foam and velvet; bags are made from organic cotton and ribbons from Tencel—a material sourced from sustainable European forestry. If you want to explore their jewelry collection and have the chance to try on pieces before making your decision, mark your calendar for February 24th when Veyia will be showcasing their collection alongside other brands for a week-long exhibition. Whether it’s earrings, bracelets, rings or necklaces, let this Valentine’s Day be an occasion to give love sustainability — whether to yourself or a loved one.

SUSTAINABLE AND MODERN GERMAN CUISINE — HONEST FOOD IN THE NEWLY OPENED EI(-12437-B)

SUSTAINABLE AND MODERN GERMAN CUISINE — HONEST FOOD IN THE NEWLY OPENED EI(-12437-B)

Last summer (2023), many of us were drawn to Plänterwald when Jessica-Joyce Sidon served up the tastiest bratwurst and most addictive potatoes we’ve ever eaten, in her new beer garden “Zum Anleger — Eierhäuschen”. While the beer garden is on winter break (until April 2024), Jessi is opening her restaurant Ei-12437-B (Ei for short). The restaurant is located in the red brick complex of the Eierhäuschen, which until recently was hidden behind construction fences and scaffolding. In new, but also old, splendor life is returning to the once popular restaurant and GDR landmark: an art space and restaurant, for young and old, and for all those who grew up here and have fond memories of the place. Ei will serve honest food — sustainable, modern and, yes, German with a slight French influence. Regional and seasonal dishes — such as bread dumplings in mushroom cream with wild herbs and goose ragout with sourdough pasta — are served in an amazing setting. The building features high ceilings, playful architecture, an open bar made of granite, and light-catching brass. In summer you can move outdoors and take a seat on their spacious terrace. You’ll also find a drinks menu with delicious wines brought to you by Europe’s young winegrowers, draught beer from the Barnimer Brauhaus, and an ever-changing cocktail menu. And for those who enjoyed Dry January so much they’ve decided to make it a dry 2024, you’ll also find homemade lemonade, non-alcoholic wine, fresh juice and tea on the menu. Jessi and her team also offer tailor-made menus for personal events — whether private or corporate catering, product launches or wedding celebrations, at Ei anything is possible.

READY TO CHANGE UP YOUR WALLS? DISCOVER UNIQUE DESIGNS AT MS WALLPAPER

READY TO CHANGE UP YOUR WALLS? DISCOVER UNIQUE DESIGNS AT MS WALLPAPER

In this day and age — when interior design is about more than simple functionality — choosing the perfect wallpaper can transform your space from okay to amazing. That’s where MS Tapete in Prenzlauer Berg can help. They allow you to push beyond conventional boundaries of what a home is supposed to look like and add a contemporary spin that reflects your style with their wallpaper art. In artist Miriam Schwedt’s workshops, wall art is created. Art that waltzes right past mainstream trends (we’re looking at you, floral patterns) and opts for extravagant yet well-balanced designs. Miriam draws inspiration from everyday objects, textiles and nature, combining them into larger-than-life designs. The wallpaper is created using a high-resolution scanning process for high-quality prints. And let’s not overlook MS Tapete’s sustainability efforts. Leftover wallpaper and misprints are turned into greeting cards, notebooks and storage boxes to minimize waste (available at the showroom). All of Miriam’s designs are the same price. For €149 per square meter, you can purchase custom-made fine art wallpaper for your home. You can view her designs online but to truly understand their impact, we recommend visiting the showroom where you can also get advice from Miriam herself. Whether you’re looking to make a statement in your home or want to expand your repertoire as an interior designer, you won’t be disappointed.
