FULL CIRCLE CLOTHES FOR CHILDREN — NEW AND RECYCLED GARMENTS FROM ONLINE STARTUP MAMELO

FULL CIRCLE CLOTHES FOR CHILDREN — NEW AND RECYCLED GARMENTS FROM ONLINE STARTUP MAMELO

Can you afford to buy quality, sustainable children’s clothing when the little ones grow out of things so quickly? Mameloshows how you can: the Berlin-based startup produces timeless childrenswear for kids aged zero to eight from 100 percent organically produced merino wool. The range is still growing, but beautiful cardigans, hats and blankets are already available. The concept is simple: as soon as your child has outgrown their clothes, they can be returned to Mamelo for a discount on a bigger size or against store credit. Wearable items will be given a new home, while anything too worn out will be recycled into new yarn. This is the circular economy in action: long-lasting clothes and textiles that accompany your child – and others – through the first years of their lives.

CHARMING CORNER FOR FLAVOR-PACKED TREATS TO GO — EMPANADAS AND JUICES AT CAMINITO

CHARMING CORNER FOR FLAVOR-PACKED TREATS TO GO — EMPANADAS AND JUICES AT CAMINITO

If you’re looking for somewhere where South American flavors come with a vitamin hit, Caminito should be high on your list. Step inside this takeaway shop and you’ll be greeted by an interior space adorned with beautiful bouquets and a display of natural wine. The empanadas aren’t bad, either: rows of stuffed pastries shine like jewels in their steel-and-glass display. Baked fresh every morning, they pair beautifully with the fresh juice menu, which includes the “red” drink with beetroot, orange, apple and ginger. Founders Darius and Kinga opened Caminito in October 2021 after deciding to deploy their restaurant experience – Kinga’s kitchen credits include Shed – to create a space focused on traditional pastry.

The varieties include the “Beef Green” with meat, onion, olives and egg, classic spinach with potatoes, goats cheese and pumpkin seeds and, for the vegans, the ratatouille with zucchini, pepper, tomato and thyme. Besides the signature fillings, the team also serve seasonal creations meaning there’s always something new to try. Not to be missed is the delicious fresh chimichurri sauce that ticks all the boxes for flavor and texture. Caminito’s central location means’s it ideal if you want to escape the office for a pastry-based pick-me-up, though if you ask us the sauce alone is worth the trip to Mitte…

PANORAMAWEG BUCKOW — A DAY OUT WALKING BY THE SCHERMÜTZELSEE LAKE

PANORAMAWEG BUCKOW — A DAY OUT WALKING BY THE SCHERMÜTZELSEE LAKE

Around 50km east of Berlin by the Schermützelsee lake (not to be confused with the Scharmützelsee further south) lies the picturesque town of Buckow in the Märkische Schweiz. Since the 1950s, the area’s Victorian villas, historic town center and lakeside beach have pulled in the weekend tourists, including the likes of Helene Weigel and Bertolt Brecht who spent their summers there. The place has lost none of its beauty and romanticism, making a tour here a firm favorite of ours. You can easily get to Buckow from Ostkreuz by regional train (RB26 to Münchenberg station) followed by bus, but for our last visit we decided to start the walk directly from the station. The Märkische Schweiz is a well-known hiking region, so there’s plentiful signage: follow the Panoramaweg Buckow which goes via the small village of Waldsieversdorf.

If you know the Brandenburg countryside you might smile at the name “Märkische Schweiz”, given the absence of mountains here. But this route does at least take you up some fairly steep hills, meaning good shoes are a must for going up and down the steps. When we arrived in Buckow, we found a small cafe called Lokal in the center of town where a family makes home-baked cakes from regional ingredients and a delicious apple-cinnamon mulled wine. From Buckow there’s a bus back to Müncheberg every hour. The Panoramaweg is around 7km and can be completed in one to two hours; from Münchenberg add on another 6km. German writer Theodor Fontane called the Buckower countryside “a rural beauty who steps into the lake with bare feet and braids her hair under willow branches”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

POWER POP AND CAR TECH — DRIVE LIVE EVENT WITH MOGLI AT THE VOLKSWAGEN NETWORKING LOUNGE

POWER POP AND CAR TECH — DRIVE LIVE EVENT WITH MOGLI AT THE VOLKSWAGEN NETWORKING LOUNGE

Mogli is not one to shy away from a challenge. Ever since she released her 2015 debut album, the singer-songwriter has shunned the record industry mainstream to make music on her own terms. Now, the 27-year-old artist is back with her latest indie album, Ravage, whose theme is one we can all identify with: finding courage and confidence in the face of an uncertain future. Accompanied by a groundbreaking 60-minute film, the album will be released in 2022 but you can get a special – live – preview of the new music at tonight’s edition of the Drive Live networking series (18.11.2021 from 18h30). Mogli will perform an intimate set to a small audience, giving you a sneak peek at her electro-influenced sound. The venue for the show is the Volkswagen Networking Lounge, where you can also enjoy after-work drinks, network with like-minded guests and explore the “Drive Progress” exhibition featuring the latest Audi car tech. Tickets for tonight’s event are strictly limited, so secure yours online now.
