VOLKSPARK SCHÖNEBERG–WILMERSDORF: A LONG WINDING PARK TO STRETCH YOUR LEGS IN

VOLKSPARK SCHÖNEBERG–WILMERSDORF: A LONG WINDING PARK TO STRETCH YOUR LEGS IN

Some green spaces in Berlin get a lot of attention, but there’s one that’s definitely worth (re)discovering: Volkspark Schöneberg-Wilmersdorf. The elongated 20-hectare park consists of Volkspark Wilmersdorf and the Rudolph-Wilde Park in Schöneberg, spanning the two districts in three parts. And whether you want to chill or get a sweat on, the park is the perfect match. There’s space for jogging, strolling and relaxing, with playgrounds, fountains, table tennis and ponds at your disposal. A highlight in spring and summer is the beautiful flower beds – something unique in Berlin. But the park also has its charms in autumn too. When we were there at the beginning of this week, some of the flowers were still in bloom, even as the leaves rustled under our feet… (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Johanna Rademacher Flesland & Sophie Döring)

DICE CONFERENCE + FESTIVAL: THREE DAYS OF DIALOGUE, DANCE, MUSIC, WORKSHOPS AND MORE

DICE CONFERENCE + FESTIVAL: THREE DAYS OF DIALOGUE, DANCE, MUSIC, WORKSHOPS AND MORE

A Diy Queer-feminist Instagram Workshop in a church? Yes, at Dice Conference + Festival (31.10–02.11.2019) boundaries aren’t just pushed, but broken down completely. The result is three days of music featuring an extensive line-up of non-binary, trans and female DJs and performers. The music lineup of mainly electronic acts at Kreuzberg’s Bi Nuu space features genre-hopping veteran and iconoclast DJ MarcelleSHYGIRL, the fierce alter-ego of London-based DJ and singer Blane Muise; and deep house legend Lady Blacktronika. Meanwhile, the Tabor Church is where the festival’s theme of “Overtime” – how society values (or doesn’t value) performers’ time and work – is pursued, with rousing workshops like “Negotiating your Worth“. The space also hosts a multitude of audiovisual wonders including Parisian DJ and producer CRYSTALLMESS with a “pluridisciplinary” show combining music, video and 3D. It concludes a festival that provokes as much discourse as it does dancing. (Text: Benji Haughton / Photos: Lisa Wassmann, Taborkirche)

CANAL: HEAVENLY ECLAIRS AT HACKESCHER MARKT — RECOMMENDED BY LIZA KOVALOVA

CANAL: HEAVENLY ECLAIRS AT HACKESCHER MARKT — RECOMMENDED BY LIZA KOVALOVA

I have a big sweet tooth, so it’s lucky for me that I get to report on one of the tastiest spots in Berlin: Canal. Having started this compact cafe as an ice cream shop in 2015, co-founders and pastry masters Daniella Barriobero Canal und Guadalupe Eichner decided to move into eclairs to keep customers happy during the winter months. The pair worked intensively to create the best eclairs possible, and if you want to get your hands on one of the nine deliciously indulgent varieties they’ve developed, my tip is to get there early. You won’t want to miss out on the likes of the pistachio and raspberry eclair, with Sicilian nut pastry cream, whipped ganache and fresh berries; or the matcha sesame, which features the best Valrhona Opalys white chocolate. Sneak a couple of these delights home with you in a box when you next stop by for a coffee. (Text: Liza Kovalova / Photos: Savannah van der Niet)

Liza Kovalova works as a PR manager and was based in Berlin until 2019. Now back in Ukraine, she’s still addicted to passionately prepared food.

MINI BAZAAR: THE PARENT- AND CHILD-FRIENDLY INDOOR FLEA MARKET

MINI BAZAAR: THE PARENT- AND CHILD-FRIENDLY INDOOR FLEA MARKET

The Mini Bazaar is gradually developing into a small institution. “Perhaps Berlin’s most beautiful children’s flea market”, the Bazaar is aimed specifically at mothers and fathers who are interested in sustainable childrenswear. On Sunday (27.10.2019), Little Years, the Berlin family blogzine, is inviting parents to sell used, well-preserved children’s clothing alongside shop owners who want to clear treasures from their outlets. The focus is on higher-end kids brands like Bobo ChosesMini Rodini and Tiny Cottons, this time available for less. In addition, there are – also sustainable –Berlin labels like Monkind, which will be offering samples and Second Season items. Lovingly designed play and nappy corners, arts & crafts tables, workshops and refreshments ensure that the whole family will feel right at home in the beautiful rooftop loft at the Aufbau Haus. IDENTITY, SEXUALITY AND RELIGION: MIRNA FUNK AND FABIAN HART READING FROM THEIR COLUMNS

IDENTITY, SEXUALITY AND RELIGION: MIRNA FUNK AND FABIAN HART READING FROM THEIR COLUMNS

We advise you to put next Tuesday (29.10.2019) in your calendar and get ready for an evening with Mirna Funk and Fabian Hart, who will read excerpts from their columns for the online edition of German Vogue. In her column Jüdisch heute (Jewish today) Mirna Funk deals with the presence of Jewish culture in Germany and her day-to-day life as a German Jew living between Berlin and Tel Aviv. Meanwhile in his #DasNeueBlau(#TheNewBlue) column Fabian Hart discusses being free from masculinity and the need to question internalized role models. Both authors provide progressive insight into their subject matter, and aim to enlighten, probe and debate, unafraid to broach sensitive topics. Now the pair will share their words live on stage, and if you’ve ever read anything by them you’ll know that it’s never boring. Fancy joining the event for a discussion and maybe a drink? Just write us an email at win@ceecee.cc for a chance to win two tickets. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Shai Levy, M.Kocher & M.Hattwig)
