EUROPE: AN EVENING OF DISCUSSION WITH LISA BANHOLZER & MARIE NASEMANN IN THE KÖNIG GALERIE

EUROPE: AN EVENING OF DISCUSSION WITH LISA BANHOLZER & MARIE NASEMANN IN THE KÖNIG GALERIE

What happens when beauty influencers meet architectural theorists to talk about Europe? We’re as curious as you are. Today – Thursday, the best day of the week – is Europe Day and thus the perfect time for an evening on all things Europe. The European elections will take place on 26.05.2019, hence the event’s hashtag: #thistimeimvoting, which serves as the evening’s leitmotif. The smart and personable Lisa Banholzer will moderate the event together with Marie Nasemann, while the architect role is filled by Dutchman Reinier de Graaf, partner at Rem Koolhaas’s Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA). It’s fitting then that the event is set in the architecturally exciting König Galerie. At the Cee Cee studio we all support this commitment to the election and see it as a chance to engage with the topic. We are a colorful, diverse, and international team; we love Europe and hope that Brexit will never come and that there are no new borders, fences or barriers. We are as excited as you are about this evening and the curious mix of people, not to mention music from Matilda Eyre. So what are you waiting for? BERLIN’S FIRST VEGAN PATISSERIE — EXQUISITE CAKES VON GEORGIA

BERLIN’S FIRST VEGAN PATISSERIE — EXQUISITE CAKES VON GEORGIA

Expecting guests for coffee and cake? Your mother’s birthday is coming up? Your girlfriend is vegan, but your dad keeps it traditional? These days, it can be pretty hard to keep up with the preferences of your guests or even your hosts, but thanks to former health psychologist Georgia that’s all over. On a mission to bring maximum indulgence to a plant-based lifestyle, the 24-year-old opened her vegan patisserie in March 2019 under the name Von Georgia. She makes all her creations by hand without any gluten, soy or refined sugars. I’ve always been somewhat skeptical about vegan cakes and tarts: too dry, too overpowering, too heavy. But everything here is just right. Delicacies include a creamy blueberry cake, lovingly decorated with fresh blueberries, rose petals and vanilla cream; decadent date-caramel cake with chocolate glaze; and my favorite, the “Snickerz Wheel”, which is perfect if you’ve been searching for a vegan alternative to a real Snickers bar. You can easily order your cakes online, and they can be delivered anywhere in Berlin. (Text: Lisa Strube / Photos: Von Georgia)

PHYLYDA — GLAMOROUS SWIMWEAR FOR ALL BODIES

PHYLYDA — GLAMOROUS SWIMWEAR FOR ALL BODIES

Time for sunshine! And also time to cool down – all you need is the right swimwear. No doubt you’ve lost your matching bikini bottoms or perhaps you’ve put on a few pounds and can’t find the right fit in high street shops? Lydia Maurer can help. Former creative director of Parisian fashion house Paco Rabanne, Lydia now creates bikini tops and bottoms (and swimsuits) that are interchangeable and can be matched to taste. Her creations celebrate the diversity of the female body and are sustainably produced in Europe under fair working conditions. Her latest collection, lush and rich in color, is inspired by fashion photographer Guy Bourdin’s imaginary journey to Jamaica. Incidentally, “Phylyda” means foliage and recalls the oldest garment known to man: Adam and Eve’s fig leaf. You can get a great overview of the collection online and try on the pieces right away at tonight’s opening of their new pop-up shop at Bikini Berlin, in cooperation with Fashion Council Germany. The first 100 visitors to the pop up shop are rewarded with a special goodie: a 45% discount on all swimwear. So pack your BFF and your swimsuit and off to Wannsee you go! MARWAN FAKHEREDDIN RECOMMENDS: KHAO TAAN FOR FRESH, FAMILY-STYLE THAI FOOD

MARWAN FAKHEREDDIN RECOMMENDS: KHAO TAAN FOR FRESH, FAMILY-STYLE THAI FOOD

Berlin’s food culture has been given new nourishment by Khao Taan, an authentic Thai restaurant that opened in February 2019. Nestled in a quiet street in Friedrichshain, it resembles a dining room and your experience there is akin to a laid-back dinner with a Thai grandmother. After several stints at food markets like Bite club and Markthalle Neun, Gaan, a lawyer turned cook, decided to open up his own restaurant. The concept is based on successive courses, including dishes you select from categories including canapés and relishes. Each guest takes samples from plates and no one gets their own individual portion; everything is shared. Don’t expect to see Pad Thai on the menu, rather be ready for novel items such as guinea fowl, young green chilli and Chinese plum. Expect succulent flavours that will dazzle you while you converse with friends and family over hand-picked wine. Khao Taan merges contrasting flavours that turn complementary, and implements distinct textures that stimulate your taste buds, showcasing the extent of Thai cuisine. The abundance of love is evident, and with Gaan’s family style offering, you are guaranteed a complete culinary journey. (Text: Marwan Fakhereddin / Photos: Khao Taan)

Marwan Fakhereddin owns and runs Simsim levantine restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg alongside his brother Jusuf. Since 2015 Berlin has been his home.
