MIXING BEATS TASTING: CHILDHOOD FLASHBACKS BY THE SCOOP AT KURÉME

MIXING BEATS TASTING: CHILDHOOD FLASHBACKS BY THE SCOOP AT KURÉME

There was a small corner shop next to my elementary school back when I was a kid. Whenever my grandfather gave me pocket money, I would run there full of excitement after school. The shelves were always stacked to the ceiling with transparent plastic containers filled with sweets in every shape and color. I feel the same way when I’m at Kuréme. Instead of sour snakes and fizzy UFOs, there’s creamy ice cream, and instead of transparent boxes, there’s a display of pozzetti. But just like the colorful bags, the selection feels like a playground for your imagination. Over 300 possible combinations await you here, thanks to 40 flavors and three glazes (matcha, chocolate, and pistachio) that you can dip the scoops into. The interior of Kuréme is minimalist, shiny, sculptural — exactly as co-founders My and Duong imagined it. The ice cream is produced in small batches, with Gabriele Atzeni, Head of Production and a good friend of the co-founders. The trio combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with new and unusual flavors, inspired by travels and childhood memories. Similar to perfumes, many flavors have top, middle, and base notes. The result ranges from reinterpreted classics to desserts and dishes transformed into ice cream. Mango Sticky Rice combines pandan, coconut milk, and mango swirls; Bananatella translates stracciatella into a banana split dream; Bufala combines buffalo milk ricotta with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

With Viet Coffee, condensed milk is deliberately added to the finished ice cream mixture — this is how My and Duong recreate the experience of Vietnamese iced coffee as closely as possible. That’s exactly what makes Kuréme so special to me: in addition to the wonderful flavor combinations, they also go wild with textures, yet nothing is created arbitrarily, but with a concept in mind. You also have the opportunity to do your own thing. Are you a matcha ultra? Get a scoop of matcha, or a scoop of matchatella with matcha glaze on top? Or a scoop of matcha, but with a chocolate glaze? Or maybe you want to try something really crazy. There are no limits to the combinations. Five to six vegan varieties are always on offer — sometimes fruity like mandarin, sometimes creamy like douhua, inspired by the Chinese silken tofu dessert. The selection is huge and the possibilities endless. And I feel transported back to my childhood, when three euros put the world of sweets at my feet.

TIMELOOP UNDER THE STARS — CEE CEE X HINGE MOONLIGHT MOVIE NIGHT

TIMELOOP UNDER THE STARS — CEE CEE X HINGE MOONLIGHT MOVIE NIGHT

Summer evenings in Berlin have their own magic and call for open-air moments! And it’s best when there’s a big screen flickering somewhere in the dark. Movies in the moonlight? Yes, please. Together with Hinge, the dating app designed to be deleted, we at Cee Cee have created Moonlight Movie Night (29.08.2025). For this event, Studio C, located directly on the water at Rummelsburger Bucht, will be transformed into an open-air cinema. Of course, it’s about more than just movies: on deck chairs by the water, with a view of the sunset, there’s room for good company – before and after the movie. The film “Palm Springs” (2020) will be shown for this one-night-only event: a romantic comedy that retells the classic time loop plot with dry humor and a lot of heart – perfect to laugh and connect. Classic cinema snacks will also be provided, of course – popcorn, ice cream, and maybe a little spark? Bring a friend, bring a lover, bring a partner. We promise: You’ll have a good time. And best of all, admission is free: you can join the evening with one of the limited tickets we’re giving away: 50 tickets, always in sets of two. And if you’re not in Berlin, the Moonlight Movie Night is also taking place in Hamburg (25. & 26.08.) – under the same stars, on a different shore.

TRESEN TREFF, MY NEW FAVORITE PUB — RECOMMENDED BY POLA VAN DEN HÖVEL

TRESEN TREFF, MY NEW FAVORITE PUB — RECOMMENDED BY POLA VAN DEN HÖVEL

I love places that are somewhere between fine dining and a sports bar — unfussy with everything you need. And honestly, after a day full of art hustle and bustle, networking, and vernissages, nothing brings me back down to earth faster than a good meatball and a cold beer. Tresen Treff in Wilmersdorf is such a place. It’s a classic Berlin corner pub, taken over at the beginning of the year (2025) by Josha, Laurens, and Julia: two gastronomy pros with Michelin-starred backgrounds and a social worker with organizational talent. Soccer is on, slot machines are flashing, the beer is cold, and the food? Wildly good. We arrived spontaneously, shortly before the kitchen closed, and the place was packed, but we were still served and cooked for with love, as if it were 7 p.m. and we were the only guests. They had everything: matjes salad, Beamtenstippe, mashed potatoes, Senfeier, pork knuckle with sauerkraut… And just when we were about to roll out the door, they slipped us a last chocolate pudding with vanilla sauce, almost secretly, even though the kitchen had long since closed. Goosebumps. The prices? Nostalgically good. Small plates are two to seven euros, beer is three euros, and Futsal is two euros and fifty. The crowd is a diverse mix, from old Berlin pensioners to Gen Z. Everyone is easygoing. No fuss, no pressure. The Tresen Treff is my safe space when Berlin gets too much. Potato expertise, flexibility, and honest charm. No scene pressure, but with a lot of soul.

CUTTING IT CLOSE: SALON ADEPT CONNECTS COMMUNITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

CUTTING IT CLOSE: SALON ADEPT CONNECTS COMMUNITY & CRAFTSMANSHIP

Heat, dry air, saltwater, and chlorinated water from your last trip to the pool or beach vacation? Not the best conditions for your hair. Since the beginning of July 2025, there has been a new place to go for that urgently needed visit to the hairdresser: Adept. Behind the hair salon in Mitte are Ivan, Alina, and Arseniy. Ivan studied philosophy and has been involved in the skateboarding scene for 20 years. Most recently, he ran a barbershop in Moscow. Alina and Arseniy have been building salons for over a decade — he as a hairstylist, she in business management. The idea for Adept came about after they moved to Berlin. Curious friends kept asking when the first salon would finally open here. Questions turned into a plan, and the plan turned into a space: one where you can reinvent yourself. Ivan, Alina, and Arseniy spent almost a year searching for a suitable location until they found the perfect corner space in Mitte. The salon is large, bright, and its layout offers customers and staff the opportunity for open conversations and creativity. The design combines wood with metal, warm tones with clean lines. Prices are not based on gender, but on whether you have your hair cut and colored by a senior stylist or a top stylist. Adept sees itself not only as a hair salon, but also as a meeting place. They are open to collaborations, creative projects, and new ideas. You can book an appointment online via the website.
