Natural wine is something special, offering a quite different experience than a conventional glass of red or white. But isn’t all wine natural? It’s fermented grape juice after all. Turns out it’s not, since before it reaches our glass, wine typically undergoes numerous industrial processes and additions. The natural wines from Neukölln shop Treat are anything but typical: free of pesticides, artificial chemicals and pesticides, these wines are made with natural yeast and contain no added sulphites. Nature and sustainability are part of founder couple Ann and Julia Böning’s everyday vocabulary. The idea originated in Hamburg, where Julia created a small wine cellar for herself and her neighbors, ordering a selection of unusual wines every month. Those who wanted to could help themselves, leaving money in an envelope. This communal experience motivated and inspired the pair, and the idea of wine selling was born. Now, Treat imports wines from producers in France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Austria, typically working with small, family-run vineyards. Their attention to detail is visible on the wine bottles themselves, which are delightfully designed and can be ordered directly online. Treat supplies numerous restaurants but will also gladly help you build your own home collection. If you are enthusiastic about the selection, you can also arrange a monthly subscription with boxes that are individually tailored to you. Cheers!
