SACROWER SEE — A LAKE FAVORITE IN KÖNIGSWALDE

SACROWER SEE — A LAKE FAVORITE IN KÖNIGSWALDE

Summer is not over just yet – lets capture the remaining sunny days in the best possible way: go to Sacrower lake. Beautiful scenery of dense forests, countless water lilies and turquoise waves make the trip there a memorable leap into the cold, clear waters. The lake is located at the city border between Berlin and Potsdam and is surrounded by the forest of Köningswald, a beautiful nature reserve. The lakefront is only accessible by foot and has two swimming spots. One is located on the northern shore: he or she who arrives here will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the lake. Other perks include parasols and colourful swimwear as well as  fries, ice cream and shandy – the classics for a day by the lake. The second site is an insider’s tip, located on the eastern shore and can be reached via a small forest path. Whoever finds it, will never want to go back to another lake. (Text: Milena Kalojanov / Photos: Peter Gäbelein)

EARTHWALKERS FESTIVAL: A YOGA WEEKEND WITH MAGICAL PARTY

EARTHWALKERS FESTIVAL: A YOGA WEEKEND WITH MAGICAL PARTY

A little holiday before the holiday season is over? Then take part in Earthwalking Forrest Yoga Festival this weekend (28.-30.8.2015). Among the organizational team is one of our favorite yoga teachers, Deborah Haaksman. Since 2015 and together with Sita and Nicola she’s now part of Earthwalking, a Berlin yoga community that believes in the power of unity: sharing is caring, whether it’s your knowledge of new yoga techniques or just a personal anecdote told over the veggie meal. Debbie’s personal highlight of the program is a philosophical workshop offering theoretical input for the dedicated yogi. Our highlight is of course the party on Saturday night, which includes a dinner at the great location of Oberhafen Kantine, best described as a garden hidden within the city; you are invited to join even if you haven’t been to the festival itself. Our friend Michael Müller will be spinning the music. What we like as well: all yoga teachers will be wearing fashion by designer Stephanie Franzius. So rest assured, there’s spirit, but there’s style as well. (Text: Isabelle Kagelius)

WATER ACTIVITY — PADDLING ON THE SPREE

WATER ACTIVITY — PADDLING ON THE SPREE

You don’t have to be in a boat to cruise the Spree’s waters. With Stand Up Club (SUP), a paddleboarding company, you can navigate the river independently or in small groups. Under the shadows of our cityscape and the open sky, I entered the water on a paddleboard at Badeschiff. With the guidance of my teacher, Severine, I learnt how to land, use the paddle, and actually get up on the board. Because I’m a beginner, I booked a starter tour through Osthafen where the water is quite still — perfect for practice. We paddled towards Oberbaum Brücke and, upon our return to Badeschiff, I dipped right into the refreshing pool. Fun fact: it’s popular to practice Yoga on the board. Refreshing, fun and stimulating. EXCURSION WITH A VIEW: FROM POTSDAM’S FLATOW TOWER

EXCURSION WITH A VIEW: FROM POTSDAM’S FLATOW TOWER

Just a few steps away from the train station Babelsberg, you’ll find a park that shares the same name. Make no mistake, it has its own entity – and every aspect of your visit there promises fruitful discoveries. Take the windy path to Flatow Tower, which appears to be on your left at certain moments, and right at others. The experience doesn’t exactly plateau either. The 360 degree view including landmarks like Belverdere and the dome of the Marble Palace in the New Garden are major highlights. The indoor exhibition is equally wonderful. The former guesthouse of Friedrich Wilhelm I hosts curiosities from all over the world. I had loads of fun with the layout table on the top floor: the surrounding countryside is projected onto a table through a lens. Pen and paper are provided as portal for those feeling inspired and creative. While the audio-guide is interesting, leave room to chat with the museum guard, ready to share all kinds of gossip about the tower. (Text & Photo: Helen von der Höden)

SUMMER ENCORE IN THE CITY GARDEN: LITTLE WOOD

SUMMER ENCORE IN THE CITY GARDEN: LITTLE WOOD

A temporary garden has been set-up in Berlin-Mitte since the beginning of August in effort to wake up nature in the city. The  project “Little Wood” arose from the initiative of the Contemporary Food Labs in cooperation with students of “Urbane Pflanzenökophysiologie” at HU Berlin. Solar powered kiosk awaits you on Invalidenstrasse, where you can grab the first drinks and nom noms of the day – ready for a picnic! Little Wood itself is hiding behind the trees lining the street: you can smell, feel, and taste the nature here. Wooden boxes with mint, tomatoes, melissa, basil, potatoes, and chard growing inside. You see where the ingredients served on the table comes from. Evening events alternate between lectures, workshops, screenings, supper clubs, live music and yoga classes. Don’t miss the last days as the garden will close it’s doors on August 31, hosting a flower market. Come over, sip a cool drink, and enjoy the sunset. (Text: Milena Kalojanov / Photos: XXXX)
