STATE OF THE ART: DIGITAL SCULPTURES AND LATE NIGHT JAMS AT ALTE MÜNZE

STATE OF THE ART: DIGITAL SCULPTURES AND LATE NIGHT JAMS AT ALTE MÜNZE

Bass you can feel in your bones, beams of lights that wash over you and a crowd of dancers fusing into one rippling mass. Few things are as hypnotic and entrancing as being on a dancefloor with people all locked into the same rhythm. But add visuals on top of the music and things get more gripping and glassy-eyed still. If that sounds like your world, you might want to check out AIxploration 2.0, a night of electronic music and digital art at Alte Münze next Thursday (23.04.2026). Innovative animations – from googly-eyed magenta monsters to darkly apocalyptic sculptures – will be projected onto the 90 square meter screen that fills the Prägehalle at the former coin factory, where blank discs were once stamped into Deutschmarks. Music-wise, house selections will be supplied by REMEN ‘til late, allowing you to linger in front of retina-grabbing visuals from the likes of Hati Hati Mas,Philipp Ries and AVHS. A night spent two-stepping amid the brick and metal of the old money factory will make you realize how well-matched dance music and digital sculpture really are. Two sides of the same coin, if you will.

PHOTOS, POP-UPS & PLANT DYE — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS FOR A WEEKEND WORTH SEEING

PHOTOS, POP-UPS & PLANT DYE — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS FOR A WEEKEND WORTH SEEING

Take a moment to squint into the sun! This weekend is all about the decisive gaze — one that fills in gaps and reveals the unfamiliar: coffee wreaths and silver jewelry, photography and natural wine, plant-based dyes and markets in the spring sun. The Achtung Berlin Film Festival brings Solo Show by Julius Weigel to Babylon today (16.04.). The film moves through the art world — more precisely, through its stagings and subtle illusions. A fine arts student drifts between exhibitions and side jobs. The camera stays close, never fully committing to one side. The question is whether authenticity and staging are really in opposition. Friday (17.04.) gets cheeky! At the Nhau Sessions at Cheeky, text meets sound, accompanied by something delicious on the side. The duo ôm ôm works its way through a jungle of poetry and design, while Jiun plays soulful, percussive tracks. On the menu: Nem Nuong skewers (grilled Vietnamese meatballs), vegan summer rolls, natural wine, and a few good non-alcoholic drinks. Coffee wreaths create connection — that’s a fact. At Ottilia Connects, silver jewelry comes into play as well. Until Saturday (15–18.04.), jewelry label Ottilia is inhabiting Backhaus in Neukölln. Two sisters from Cologne are behind the finely crafted pieces made from recycled silver and have brought a modular system so you can assemble your own piece of jewelry on site. There’s also coffee and plenty of good conversation. For more glimpses of perspective, head to Schöneberg. At Haus am Kleistpark, the masterclass of the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie opens its exhibition Mind the Gap on Saturday (18.04.). It presents works from two years of study, exploring ruptures and transitions. Intimate gazes by Verdiana AlbanoAntine Karla Yzer, and many others meet broader social questions. Many of the photographers will be present at the opening, and it’s bound to be a good one.

One of the city’s most daring chefs will take over the kitchen at Nomi Weinbar on Saturday (18.04.): her name is Lora Kraft. From the afternoon onwards, she will do what she does best at this collaborative pop-up. Think brioche with wild garlic, gazpacho with Granny Smith apples, dumplings with Parmesan and truffle. Alongside it, wines will be served from Nomi’s shelves. Speaking of shelves, let your gaze wander through the market and find something beautiful. Also on Saturday (18.04.), the Spring Market takes place at Another June. Labels like Rayas will bring their woven handbags, Inner and Inner will present jewelry made from glass beads, and Yont Studio will showcase its interior visions. Expect good weather and a glass of something sparkling. If you’re still searching for your spring color, you might just have to mix it yourself. And you can do exactly that on Sunday (19.04.) at Circularium during the plant dye workshop by Flora und Farbe. For an entire day, everything revolves around mordanting, dyeing, and a spirit of experimentation. For beginners and the curious, there will also be plenty of theory to help. And if, after all this, you feel like capturing light yourself and turning it into a book, dive deep into that process from Monday (20–24.04.) at AFF GalerieThe Photobook Process workshop accompanies your project from initial idea to finished product, guided by the trained eyes of Sina Niemeyer and Ann Griffin. It’s worth going, and worth looking closely.

BOOKS, BEER & BOULDERING: OUR CC CALENDAR TIPS

BOOKS, BEER & BOULDERING: OUR CC CALENDAR TIPS

April brings together things that don’t, at first, seem to belong together, yet make unbeatable pairings. Oysters and records, pottery without a plan, books at the pub, and chalk on your hands. Here are CC’s Calendar Tips for a weekend just the way we like it. In the mood for wine and records? Find both on Friday, 10.04.2026, at Coro, where Dauwd will be serving oysters with three different toppings, alongside music by Mary is on acid. Decadent and down to earth. One club you’re guaranteed to get into, unless it’s sold out, is Kleistone’s Pinch Pot Club. As the European Days of Arts and Crafts are celebrated this weekend, it’s two hours of clay and room to experiment on 10.04.2026 and 11.04.2026. No prior experience required and no traditional instruction, just fun and free-form creativity. There are small printed guides if you like. Firing and glazing happen later, and the pieces can be picked up afterward.

If you’ve already found your shape, maybe it’s time to find your favorite secondhand piece. On Saturday, 11.04.2026, Find Yours is celebrating its store opening, with a selection of consciously curated vintage pieces. There will also be free drinks and music. If the oysters are still sitting a little heavy, wash them down with a beer and a good book. On Saturday, 11.04.2026, Kneipenbüchertausch takes place at Alt-Berliner Bierstuben. Hosted by the people behind Auf ein Buch, it’s all about swapping books, talking about them, and taking new ones home. A pub quiz follows at 16h (signing up in advance is a good idea). For chalk on your hands and a little height, FLINTA* Night at Bouldergarten starts on Saturday, 11.04.2026, with a shared warm-up. After that, different sessions, from beginner bouldering and footwork to dyno and strength training. There’s also childcare and sauna infusions later in the evening. Sunday, 12.04.2026, is all about food and Neukölln. Paolo Pinkel is hosting Table Farrah for a one-day kitchen takeover, with lunch and dinner service. Expect a modern take on Mediterranean cooking with North African influences. In other words, everything you could possibly want.

GARDEN, GROOVE & GRAND THESES — CC’S TIPS FOR EARLY APRIL

GARDEN, GROOVE & GRAND THESES — CC’S TIPS FOR EARLY APRIL

April is here — time for resurrection. Admire beloved clubs in a new glow, wander through visionary gardens, and listen to bold theses. Here are CC’s Calendar tips for the Easter weekend. The weekend kicks off today (02.04.2026) at Roter Salon at the Volksbühne with a daring thesis: “Everything is Content”. Igor Simić brings his film-lecture performance to the stage, working through 300 slides and ten tracks. It’s an intense journey through pop, politics, and art — a dissection of the relentless stream of images and meanings flowing around us. Also back in the flow: Renate! Freshly renovated, the club begins a new era. From today until Sunday (02.–05.04.), the Altbau venue celebrates its reopening. New floors, a new sound system, new bookings, yet the promise remains the same: nights under the Friedrichshain stars, drifting between dance floor, drag show, and (weather permitting) the garden. On Friday and Saturday (03.–04.04.), stop by Bamnat for freshly baked salt bread — plain, sweet, or savory-filled. Complemented by a selection of custom Easter cocktails. Best not to arrive too late! And here’s a prophet of spring: Tokyo Gohan Onigiri invites you from Friday to Sunday (03.–05.04.) to celebrate Hanami — the cherry blossom festival.

Onigiri is served with creamy egg yolk and soboro, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), and other creative onigiri compositions — for dining under (artificial) cherry blossoms indoors or in the park. On Saturday (04.04.), head to the basement of CCA BerlinYuri Umemoto presents the premiere of Concerts, blending piano, cello, and violin with other media. Born in Tokyo in 2002 and currently Artist in Residence at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Umemoto works with notation, recording, and editing, combining classical and contemporary approaches with experimental and pop-adjacent elements. Concerts repeatedly introduces small everyday moments: a neighbor, a washing machine, pigeons at their feeding spot, or boys playing video games. Food and drinks are available before and after the performance. For those craving fresh air: the Große Garten in Gerswalde celebrates the start of the season. A place in constant flux — somewhere between garden project, residency, and think tank. It’s about landscape, food culture, and ecological questions, but also encounter and exchange. To kick off the warm months, there’s coffee and cake, sourdough pizza from Parg, art by Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky, and a communal stroll across the grounds. Back in the city: Under A Groove brings house music all night long to Ysy. On Saturday (04.04.), the decks are fired up on a Danley Sound Labs system, with KallalooUrbnMowgli, and other artists spinning. Entry is free, and the concept is simple: dance floors are also social spaces. So, come as you are. Easter Sunday (05.04.) lures us in with a top-tier spread in Kreuzberg. Ora serves oysters in various styles, lamb flatbread, pistachio ice brioche, and drinks into the evening. At some point, a DJ will take over (though who exactly remains a mystery). What’s certain is spring is here, and it’s a perfect excuse to rethink your wardrobe or explore new finds in someone else’s. You can do just that on Sunday (05.04.) at the Now & Then secondhand market in the Ringbar, where you’ll also discover art, tattoos, vintage treasures, and maybe even the occasional Easter egg.

21-KILOMETER WEEKEND — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS TO BEAT MUSCLE SORENESS

21-KILOMETER WEEKEND — CC’S CALENDAR TIPS TO BEAT MUSCLE SORENESS

Steady breath, consistent pace – this weekend is all about endurance. We’ll cheer from the sidelines for everything that comes our way. Here are CC’s Calendar tips to ward off sore muscles. After the starting gun, we focus on clothing that does more than dress — it moves. Today (26.03.2026) at the ifa GalleryDiaspora Wonderland. Fashioning Worlds opens, an exhibition that views fashion as a medium that carries and tells stories. It highlights how clothing mediates between origin, identity, and imagination. On Friday (27.03.), there will be a roundtable. A second pit stop is on Friday (27.03.) at the Sophie-Gips-Höfe. At FilterMusic Was My First Love opens, an exhibition exploring fandom — that deeply personal connection to music that permeates everything. Music becomes memory, obsession, perhaps even a refuge. Just a few meters away, another space invites reflection. At Kunstbrücke am Wildenbruch, two artists examine a single room from different perspectives. Clara Bahlsen and Sophie Aigner present their duo exhibition Fenster, Türen, Wände (Windows, Doors, Walls), curated by Charlotte X. Nies. The title is meant quite literally: it’s about transitions, boundaries, and what happens in between. Your next stop is Ouuma.

The brand moves between Tunis and Berlin, between Maghreb traditions and contemporary Berlin. In the afternoon, there’s a special visit: Sven Durst presents works from his world as a designer and publisher of 3 Objects Magazine, accompanied by drinks, music, and a selection of objects. If your race number starts to pinch, a quick stop in Linienstraße is worth it: Ioannes opens its Sample & Archive Sale from Friday to Sunday (27–29.03.). Founded in 2019 in Paris by Johannes Boehl, the label references couture alongside 90s sportswear — perfect for continuing your run, or letting your imagination wander. Also on Friday (27.03.), Morgen – Ein Traum premieres at Villa Elisabeth. The project, led by Charlotte Schetelich, translates Richard Strauss’s song cycle Morgen op. 47 into film — no dialogue, only images. At its center is a sleepless figure who ultimately finds their way into a dream, and into the freedom only dreams can offer. For a nourishing snack, head to a kitchen full of fermentations on Saturday (28.03.). In Gerichtstraße, Aru celebrates its grand opening, a new spot for culinary delights from Kyoto. Expect pickles, small snacks, natural wine, and sake — perfect for a mid-run stop. And since we’re just a running shoe away from the half-marathon, on Saturday (28.03.), various crews will head out for Shake-Out Runs, including Optimistic Runners and Forward Running, whose run starts at a crêperie. Here’s to a few nice kilometers! On Sunday (29.03.), take your next turn in Charlottenburg. At Luisenkirche, the Bulgarian Voices Berlin give a spring concert that moves between folklore and improvisation. If you’d rather stand, cheer on the runners along the route. Every voice counts! And after the runner’s high? The day continues. On Sunday (29.03.), the running community gathers at Ritter Butzke for Active Dance Recovery. That’s how we remedy muscle soreness here.
