MEAT VS VEGETABLES? EXPRESS YOURSELF AT “CLICHÉ BASHING”

MEAT VS VEGETABLES? EXPRESS YOURSELF AT “CLICHÉ BASHING”

Are you a vegan trying to drive out other people’s desire for meat? Or perhaps the opposite: a paleo fan who rejects grains but believes in the existence of good beef? If you feel like expressing your thoughts regarding the meat vs. vegetables debate, and do not fear the arguments from the other side, then come to Cliché Bashing in the Drive. Volkswagen Group Forum. Food production is, after all, one of the great and most relevant social issues today – and everyone should have an opinion. So come on over. P.S: Cookies & Cream, one of Berlin’s best vegetarian restaurants is right across the street… (Text: Massimo Hartmann)

EUROPEAN ART CINEMA DAY AT IL KINO: FEATURING THE NOTWIST

This Sunday (15.10.17) is European Art Cinema Day, where over 1,000 cinemas in countries from Belarus to Chile will celebrate the diverse landscape of European arthouse film. A handful of Berlin cinemas will take part and offer curated programs, but our highlight is found at Il Kino in Neukölln, where Markus Acher – from the famous German rock band, The Notwist – will be discussing his work writing several soundtracks for movies like “Kanalschwimmer” and “Was Bleibt”. Both before and after the 60 minute talk with Markus at 19h, you can catch screenings of the films his music is featured in, starting from 12h. Peek the full program here for details and times, and wherever you choose to spend European Art Cinema Day – we hope you find it insightful and inspiring. This weekend we’re excited to make the rounds and get our hands on the latest contemporary artist books from around the globe at Friends With Books. Gather inspiration and add to your collection, but also take note of the variety of performances, discussions, readings and presentations where you can delve deeper into the world of art books and publishing. This Saturday (23.9.17) at 16h, we’ll be checking into a discussion “On the Passion of Publishing and Collecting Art Books” with publisher Holger Liebs (Hatje Cantz) and art expert Albrecht Kastein. Then, we’ll head back on Sunday (24.9.17) to finish up our browsing of the beautiful books and take in a discussion with artist Gitte Villesen, plus a screening of her film, “Deeply immersed in the contents of a learning stone” – which focuses on gender construction and power dynamics. Other exhibitors include Berlin’s Peres Projects, London’s Mack, and Paris’ Lapin-Canard. Whether you’re already an art book fanatic or just simply art book curious, Friends With Books is the perfect place to test out the water or dive right in. BERLIN ART WEEK: TWO BONUS TIPS FOR EXPLORING THE NOW

BERLIN ART WEEK: TWO BONUS TIPS FOR EXPLORING THE NOW

Berlin Art Week is upon us! Newsletter #323 delivered you a bouquet of our top program picks. And now it’s in full swing, we can’t help but share a few more. Opening tonight (14.9.17) is the 2nd edition of the Festival of Future Nows 2017 → ∞ — a collaboration between Olafur Eliasson and his Institut für Raumexperimente e.V. and the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Until the 17.9.17, over 100 artists will take over Hamburger Bahnhof — Museum für Gegenwart with a dynamic program of performance, dance and music, all in exploration of James A. Baldwin’s call to action, “The challenge is in the moment, the time is always now.” Over at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, take an afternoon to browse Willem de Rooij’s survey show, “Whiteout“, which features a broad selection of the Dutch artist’s work over the past 20 years, providing a fascinating insight into the artist’s preoccupation with collecting and recontextualizing artefacts of the Zeitgeist. Need a moment to process it all? Nip over the road to the bar at Pauly Saal (from 18h) to deconstruct your impressions over a cocktail. RECAP: WEWORK X CEE CEE CREATOR AWARDS DINNER

RECAP: WEWORK X CEE CEE CREATOR AWARDS DINNER

To end with a quick recap: Last week we gave away two tickets to the German Creator Awards Dinner, which we hosted together with WeWork. Our Cee Cee winners were Livia Ritthaler and Björn Weiser, who joined guests from the creative and media industries, such as Gen Sadakane from Eyeem, Sigurd Larsen, Professor of Architecture, presenter Wana Limar and Sara Chahrrour from FindingBerlin. In the surrounds of the wonderful WeWork space at the Sony Center, with sweeping views over Tiergarten, we got to know each other better over food concepted by Wild & Root and cooked by Barkin’Kitchen. The Creator Awards pitch entry deadline has now passed — we hope you took the chance to submit your idea! Now all that’s left to do is to look forward to the next event: the winners of the German Creator Awards will be announced on 26.9.17. Save the date and secure yourself a ticket! Even if you didn’t enter yourself — the networking opportunities at WeWork are worth a ticket alone… (Text: Nina Trippel / Photos: WeWork)
