SWIPED OUT? — REAL LIFE CONNECTIONS AT SORE THUMBS SPEED DATING NIGHTS

SWIPED OUT? — REAL LIFE CONNECTIONS AT SORE THUMBS SPEED DATING NIGHTS

The frustration with Berlin’s dating scene is what led the five founders of Sore Thumbs to begin organizing speed dating nights in 2022. Their events are intended as a fun – and crucially IRL – way to meet other singles in a safe and uplifting environment. Events are offered for three groups – FLINTA* (women, trans and non-binary people), hetero singles and queer men – with 15–20 participants at each event, mostly Gen Z to millennial. You get a 3-4 minute date with each participant before submitting the names of the people you liked to the organizers. If those you liked also felt a spark: it’s a match! Besides dating nights (which are donation-based and currently held at Fincan Neukölln) the group is also throwing a Queer Singles Summer Party at Gallery22 in Kreuzberg (02.08.2025, 20h–late) for a night of saucy bops and mingling with other singles. Awaiting you are DJs, giveaways, tarot readings and, who knows, maybe even a future love. As Carrie Bradshaw (might have) typed on her MacBook: in a city of jaded hearts, is romance making a return?

Sore Thumbs hosts regular speed dating nights – for more info and sign up see here. Next events: FLINTA* speed dating (19.07.2025), Queer Singles Summer Party (02.08), hetero speed dating (August), queer men speed dating (September).

STEP RIGHT UP! — THE BERLIN CIRCUS FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR 12 DAYS OF ACROBATICS, THEATRICS AND WONDER

STEP RIGHT UP! — THE BERLIN CIRCUS FESTIVAL RETURNS FOR 12 DAYS OF ACROBATICS, THEATRICS AND WONDER

The Berlin Circus Festival returns to Tempelhofer Feld for its 11th edition. Running away to join the circus – a wonderfully romantic idea that most of us would consider utterly impractical. Luckily you can get a taste of adventure and escape without giving up your permanent address by attending the Berlin Circus Festival, which returns to Tempelhofer Feld for its 11th edition on 30.07.2025. Spread across three tents and an open-air stage, the 12-day program mixes circus performance and acrobatics with theatrical elements, music and narrative. Highlights from the lineup (50 percent of which comprises women and non-binary artists) include the likes of hula hoop show Mother.Woman.Artist, a raw solo performance by Marianna De Sanctis that explores the tension between motherhood and art (03 & 04.08, 18h). Elsewhere, Memoirs of Mud by Finnish circus collective Sisus is a daring, poetic duet by a pair of high-level acrobatics performers navigating the dirt and magic of life (03 & 04.08, 19h).

A patch of grass stars in Grasshoppers, a gentle acrobatic performance by Belgian act Circus Katoen that is a playful, lighthearted ode to nature (31.07–02.08, 16h30). These are just a few picks from the wildly varied program, which features everything from Banana-suited Chinese pole performers to stripped-back acrobatics featuring two performers and a bicycle. You can view the full program and purchase single and combination tickets on the website. Tickets give you access to the festival site, which offers food, drink and plenty of thrills, spills and organized madness.

FROM ZERO-WASTE COOKING TO SPECULATIVE FICTION — JULY EVENTS TO JOIN, TASTE & PONDER

FROM ZERO-WASTE COOKING TO SPECULATIVE FICTION — JULY EVENTS TO JOIN, TASTE & PONDER

Between culinary pop-ups, art markets, and collective reading sessions, the city is bursting with excitement. Tonight (10.07.2025), a three-day pop-up kicks off at Isla Coffee in Neukölln with the UK-based collective The Social Distortion. Traveling from northern England, the group brings a plant-based menu inspired by Thai street food, with a focus on zero waste and local ingredients. Menus are developed in collaboration with Berlin producers and paired with natural wine from Rocket Wine, plus beer and cocktails. Meals are served daily in two seatings – reservations via email. On Saturday (11.07.), our neighbors at Akkurat Café and Akkurat Studios celebrate their fourth anniversary with Wolff Jordan. Expect good drinks, (hopefully) sunshine, and sets by Tobgun Tunes and Fletchy Boy.

One day later (12.07.), the Summer KO Market returns to Haus der Statistik, offering exhibitions, workshops, and talks from 14–20h. Guided tours explore the site’s history, while the inner courtyard becomes a space for shared meals, discussions, and artistic production. The focus is on participatory formats that show how urban development, art, and self-organization intersect. The following weekend (18–20.07.2025), literature takes center stage. The African Book Festivalat Alte Münze explores “In Other Wor(l)ds” – a theme dedicated to African and Afro-diasporic authors who use horror, sci-fi, and fantasy to imagine new realities. Ghana is this year’s focus, with a program full of readings, talks, performances, and a book market. On 19.07.2025, another summer gathering unfolds in Friedrichshain – this time with fabric, prints, and jewelry. At the Summer Aperitif hosted by Esoraa and Valencia in Berlin at Mijas, you’ll find handmade bags, silk scarves, and jewelry, along with block printing and henna art. Super serves sangria and tapas, while Rasch Café keeps things cool with matcha and coffee. And with that, cheers to the next summer weekend!

CROISSANT SESSION BY CEE CEE X MATCHASOME X WAA — MATCHA ORANGE JUICE, HIP HOP & LOTS OF CROISSANTS

Our new event series, Croissant Sessions, is entering its second round, and you’re invited! The edition will feature new partners, new drinks, and a new DJ. Together with Matchasome and the Women of Achievement podcast, we invite you to start your Saturday (19.07.2025) differently with a little daytime party (minus the hangover). Matchasome – the Berlin matcha brand with two locations – will serve an ice-cold matcha orange juice special to celebrate the second Croissant Session at their Mitte location. The event will be accompanied by hip hop and R’n’B tracks from DJ krizzi with the k!. So if you fancy enjoying the hopefully sunny and hot Saturday morning with cool drinks and a dance, you’re very welcome. What else can be expected of Croissant Session No.02? We can’t forget crispy croissants, freshly baked by The Sanctuary (free mini croissants for the first visitors). And on the shelves, you might even spot the new Matchasome packaging designed by our agency, Cee Cee Creative!

HIGH SPIRITS — LOUNGE AND SIP AT HENDRICK’S LOVE PALACE AT LOLLAPALOOZA BERLIN

HIGH SPIRITS — LOUNGE AND SIP AT HENDRICK’S LOVE PALACE AT LOLLAPALOOZA BERLIN

Next weekend is Lollapalooza weekend (12 & 13.07.2025), with almost sixty thousand festivalgoers set to gather at Olympiastadion and Olympiapark for a music lineup including Justin Timberlake, Gracie Abrams and Confidence Man. But the festival isn’t just about the main stage: there’s also a whole constellation of side stages, fringe performances and markets that you can drift around, dance to and otherwise soak up at the two-day gathering. For refreshments, one stand worth checking out is the Hendrick’s Love Palace. There you can not only join Cupid and his helpers in their search for your sweetheart, but also simply fall in love with your friends or enjoy a delicious Hendrick’s Lovebomb. Expect offbeat activities, decorations featuring the distiller’s quirky, Victorian-inspired aesthetic and of course G&Ts (made with cucumber – just as they should be). Santé!
