OH SO SMOOTH: WHY TYLKO’S NEW SOFA LIVES UP TO ITS NAME

OH SO SMOOTH: WHY TYLKO’S NEW SOFA LIVES UP TO ITS NAME

Half of Berlin’s apartments are home to one of Tylko’s modular shelving systems. Whether it’s a sideboard, shoe rack or dressing table – their furniture fits snugly and affordably into every Altbau niche and prefab hallway. Everyone loves Tylko – and now, there might be another reason why. Because the Polish furniture brand is expanding its portfolio to include soft seating: introducing the Smooth Sofa, which is launching this week at the Klub Maison pop-up. It was designed in collaboration with industrial designer Krystian Kowalski, who is known for his clean lines and functional elegance. And it is – what else would you expect – modular, of course. True to Tylko’s signature approach, the Smooth Sofa can be fully configured online (it’s a Smooth Generator). For compact studios where full living landscapes are too much, there are standalone pieces. And when your home – or household – grows, Smooth grows with you: just add the modules you need. Choosing a couch is no small decision – the average Berliner doesn’t shop for a new one every few months. And the last thing you want is for this year’s color or fabric choice to feel outdated next year. To help you avoid the guesswork, Tylko invites you to try it out in person – by test-lounging, -stretching or -sprawling to your heart’s content. Head to Wedding and Klub Maison, which will transform into a walk-in comfort zone tomorrow (04.07.2025). And see for yourself what good design actually feels like. No pressure, no appointment – just plenty of chances to discover whether this might just be the last sofa you’ll ever need – in the best possible way.

SUMMER CAME & BERLIN WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH — A RELAXED START TO JULY

SUMMER CAME & BERLIN WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE ON EARTH — A RELAXED START TO JULY

Not a loud start to July, but a relaxed get-together. There are hot dogs on hand, archive pieces for summer, and natural wine for the aperitif. Tonight (03.07.2025) sees the opening of the group exhibition Afterthought at the Bootshaus an der Spree. Twelve international artists will be showing works ranging from photography and sculpture to sound and text. DJ Jeremy J. will provide the musical accompaniment to the vernissage. Saturday (06.07.) is shopping day: the Soho House Archive Market celebrates its summer edition with seven Berlin vintage and archive stores. ArchangelsVelvet Knife, and Endyma, among others, will present selected pieces to try on and take home. Culinary delights will kick off the weekend on Friday evening (05.07.) with a pop-up dinner at Aerde. Together with the South African format Sojourn, Chef and Junior Sommelier Dean and Aerde Chef Nick will serve a menu that combines natural wines from the Western Cape with seasonal sharing-style dishes. Saturday (06.07.) will be more informal. There will be snacks, (hopefully nice) conversations, and wine. The idea: a culinary reunion among friends.

Dotori is celebrating its birthday on Sunday (13.07.). Two years of Korean comfort food on Böckhstraße. To mark the occasion, The Sausage Man Never Sleeps will be serving hot dogs, Fi Power will be serving three types of ice cream sandos, and Skin2SkinContact will be playing music. The party starts at 2 pm and the kitchen will be open until 9.30 pm. Arrive early to get a place on the terrace. Film fans, pencil this in: the Summer Berlinale returns to the Freiluftkino Friedrichshain from July 8 to 11. Four festival highlights will be screened: Lesbian Space Princess, Christy, Holding Liat, and The Blue Trail. Great cinema in the open air, for everyone who wants to enjoy the Berlin summer to the fullest.

IS IT THAT TIME AGAIN? BERLIN FASHION WEEK RETURNS

IS IT THAT TIME AGAIN? BERLIN FASHION WEEK RETURNS

Getting dressed, heading out, crossing paths: Berlin’s SS26 Fashion Week (30.06–03.07.2025) is kicking off, along with a range of public events open to all. Starting Monday (30.06.), the Berliner Salon opens at the Museum of Photography in Charlottenburg. As a long-standing part of Berlin Fashion Week, the group exhibition places fashion and design in dialogue with art and cultural history. Between Helmut Newton’s fashion icons and the collections of the Art Library, contemporary German fashion gathers under one roof. The exhibition opens to the public on 01.07. Less retrospective but all the more forward-thinking is what’s happening at Platte Berlin. On Monday evening (30.06.), the fifth edition of the Next Gen Pop-up showcases emerging designers who explore narratives around sustainability, identity, and digital innovation.

On Tuesday (01.07.), the 032c Workshop on Kantstraße opens the doors to a silver-toned space for sound and transformation. In collaboration with Electronic Beats032c presents an installation by Harry Nuriev. Titled “All is Sound. All is Transformation”, the project connects CD culture, club history, and collective listening. The sculptural structure echoes a 1990s record store and invites visitors to bring their CDs, creating a shared archive of sound. From 01–04.07.2025, Dawn Denim and Circular Berlin launch Dawnhaus, a pop-up celebrating sustainable denim culture. With free jean repair services and workshops, the project shows what circular fashion can look like in practice. It’s part of the EU Horizon Program “Solstice”, which is turning Berlin into a pilot city for a denim repair bonus. Repair instead of replace. Wrapping things up is a one-day pop-up on 02.07. at Nella Beljan Satellite II Gallery on Karl-Marx-Allee. Bulgarian designer Vladimir Karaleev returns to Fashion Week to present his capsule collection Dis/Play. The collection is both an installation and a reflection on 15 years of creative work, with a focus on craftsmanship, sustainability, and modern everyday wear. Four days of fashion, culture, and conversation — to see, learn, ask questions, and spark new ideas.

STORIES OF TOMORROW — JEWISH CULTURE DAYS IN BERLIN

STORIES OF TOMORROW — JEWISH CULTURE DAYS IN BERLIN

What does tomorrow sound like? And how do you write about it? The 38th Jewish Culture Days this November offers a response you can read, feel, and dance to, in a vibrant mosaic of contemporary Jewish life, through music, stories, and encounters. The conversation starts early, with a taste of what’s to come this July. “Atid” (Hebrew for future) is this year’s theme. It’s a call for hope and togetherness, driving the Jewish Culture Days forward with music, humor, and storytelling. And you can quite literally get a taste of that vision this July, at Europe’s largest Kosher Street Food Market. Held in the courtyard of the Neue Synagoge and free to attend, it will feature 40 food stands and trucks serving Sabich, falafel, freshly pressed pomegranate juice, and more. There’s also a full program of family-friendly entertainment, ranging from jazz performances to magic shows and a bouncy castle. In November, the festival’s layered program shows the many faces of Jewish culture — tender and bold, rhythmic, political, surprising. Over 40 events, including readings, film screenings, concerts, and workshops, invite audiences to engage, reflect, and celebrate. The festival opens with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Igor Budinstein.

Through contemporary soundscapes, the orchestra tells stories of Jewish history, honoring the memory of those lost to terrorism and persecution. The performance features iconic film scores from Yentl, Life Is Beautiful, and Fiddler on the Roof, accompanied by choreography from Evgeny Kozlov. Between groove and poetry lies the music of jazz bassist and composer Avishai Cohen, who brings both new and well-loved compositions from his 30-year career to the stage. The literary program follows with Dutch author Leon de Winter, reading from his latest novel Stadt der Hunde (City of Dogs) — a poignant story of love, loss, and hope in the Middle East. Also featured: the Yamma Ensemble presents multilingual, multi-instrumental songs from their latest album Teiman. With sitar, duduk, cajón, original compositions, and melodies from the diaspora, they share untold stories of Yemenite Jews. The festival closes on a high note with the politically charged, poetic lyrics of Hadag Nahash, performed over a bold blend of hip-hop, funk, and folk beats. Film also takes the spotlight: running parallel to the festival, the Seret International Film Festival will take place at Hackesche Höfe Kino. The future is now. And it’s ready to be told, starting this July, and continuing in the fall, across the stages and venues of the city.

IN TRANSITION: RAUM.BERLIN & METAMORPHOSIS RETHINK FASHION AT BERLIN FASHION WEEK

IN TRANSITION: RAUM.BERLIN & METAMORPHOSIS RETHINK FASHION AT BERLIN FASHION WEEK

Thoughtfully staged, with an open floor plan, and fashion that has something to say: about the many facets of the industry; about the urgent changes it faces; about what fashion is today, and what it needs to become in the future. With Raum.Berlin, the Fashion Council Germany and eBay are launching a progressive exhibition format for the upcoming Berlin Fashion Week SS26 — one that’s open, accessible, and built for exchange. From 01-03.07.2025, Kranzler X will be transformed daily, as designers like AvenirJisoo Baik, and Kasia Kucharska present their collections beyond traditional runways. The concept? A hybrid between show and installation, featuring nine labels united by strong design perspectives, sustainable ambitions, and distinctive creative signatures. Together, they represent a new, more conscious approach to the fashion industry. Complementing the concept is the Pre-Loved Exhibition by eBay, where curated looks made from pre-owned designer pieces purchased on the platform are brought to life. And in the afternoons, the conversation continues. With Metamorphosis – dialogues about change powered by eBay, the Fashion Council Germany continues its discursive talk series, now in its third edition. Four days, over 40 international speakers, one shared goal: to actively transform the fashion world. Each day is dedicated to a different theme.

Day one explores the next stage in the industry’s evolution: under the title Futurecraft, speakers discuss how new technologies, breakthrough materials, and innovative business models can redefine fashion. On day two, The Circular Shift examines how to scale real impact, with systems, strategies, and ideas that truly advance circularity in the industry. Day three, Lead & Thrive, puts the spotlight on leadership, entrepreneurship, and communication in a transforming field. On the final day, Creativity as Currency centers the creative process itself as a driver of values, culture, and more conscious consumption. Raum.Berlin and Metamorphosis make one thing clear: fashion can be a place of dialogue. A space where the future is imagined, shaped, and shared. Join the conversation.
