SPACE FOR SOMETHING NEW: ON X VOOSTORE POP-UP PRESENTS UPCYCLED ACTIVEWEAR IN COLLABORATION WITH UDK-ALUMNI

SPACE FOR SOMETHING NEW: ON X VOOSTORE POP-UP PRESENTS UPCYCLED ACTIVEWEAR IN COLLABORATION WITH UDK-ALUMNI

May makes everything new… except that it’s only April. But, as always, the Swiss performance brand On is one step ahead. Their latest project: a collaboration with VooStore and four alumni of the fashion design program at the Berlin University of the Arts. The result: their very own interpretation of fashionable performance wear. The innovative upcycling project, which UdK graduates Laurin Stecher, Denise Kipke, Sezgin Kivrim and Essie Kramer have been working on with the On and VooStore teams over the past few weeks, comprises a capsule collection of footwear and apparel, to be presented as part of the exhibition at VooSpace from 04.–09.04.2024. Instead of short-lived trends, the collection adopts circular fashion principles by transforming archive pieces and older collections into new unique pieces. The upcycled looks are limited edition and can only be purchased at the exhibition or online. The proceeds will go to On’s Right To Run partner “Champions Without Borders“. With the Berlin half marathon this weekend, there will of course also be running sessions. The 5km runs start at 19.30 on Thursday evening and 10.30 on Saturday morning, where a balanced breakfast awaits you afterwards. You can keep an eye out on Instagram for the last spots. If you prefer to get creative, you can look forward to a cool DIY activity during a visit to the exhibition where you’ll create a marathon-themed bandana for free (an activity which will also require nimble feet, as only the first 100 guests will get the chance). Don’t miss out on scoring a bandana as a new fashion accessory or motivation for the next run!

FIXIE, CARGO & GRAVEL BIKE: DISCOVER ALL BIKE TRENDS AND POPULAR BRANDS AT THE KOLEKTIF BIKE FAIR

FIXIE, CARGO & GRAVEL BIKE: DISCOVER ALL BIKE TRENDS AND POPULAR BRANDS AT THE KOLEKTIF BIKE FAIR

Over the years, I’ve noticed a growing trend of owning two bikes. Although, in Berlin, I feel as though you almost need three. A scrappy one for every day, which nobody wants to steal. A second for scenic rides through the park on weekends. And a third for a trip to your favorite lake. Only one question remains: which bike is right for me? Road bike, gravel or e-bike? If, like me, you’re not quite sure, you can figure it out this weekend at the Kolektif Bike Fair. Many bike manufacturers and companies will be flocking from all over Europe, including Basic Bike from Berlin, who specialize in sleek carbon designs, Muli from Cologne, whose smart cargo bikes we love. The legendary folding bikes from British brand Brompton Bicycles (who will soon be opening a store in Mitte) will also be at Kolektif, be part of the supporting program on Saturday, and host their own City Cruise. There will also be kids’ activities, a FLINTA Ride with Anja Matsiushka, movie screenings, and — of course — a big party! But back to the two-wheelers… it wouldn’t be a proper bike fair without the accessories to go with your new mode of transport: bike bags (from Ortlieb, for example), bottles, hip shirts, and functional clothing can also be found. And there’s sure to be something for those with unique interests, like pedals for barefoot riding from Moto. Whether barefoot on a single-speed bike or Goretex layers on your e-cargo bike: two wheels, one thought. If you can hardly wait, you don’t have to wait long, because it starts on Friday afternoon!

THROUGH THE SAHARA WITHOUT A CELL PHONE: PANEL DISCUSSION ON FLEEING TO SEEK REFUGE BY MSF

THROUGH THE SAHARA WITHOUT A CELL PHONE: PANEL DISCUSSION ON FLEEING TO SEEK REFUGE BY MSF

Whether for navigation, translation or communication: the cell phone is one of the most important tools, especially when fleeing from persecution, war or violence. Unfortunately, they are too often confiscated by border police or criminal gangs, because of their value or to deter asylum seekers. More than a hundred million people worldwide are on the run. Reporting tends to focus on sea rescue or entry via the EU’s external borders. Journalist Özge Inan and migration expert Marie von Manteuffel will join moderator Anna Dushime on “Through the Sahara without a cell phone” to shed light on fleeing, migration, and how European interests influence African border policies. What challenges do migrants face? How do people cross the dangerous Sahara? And what medical aid is available along refugee routes? The work of MSF(Médecins sans frontières) and questions like these will be discussed in this panel. Journalist and writer Özge Inan approaches flight and migration from a legal perspective. In her novel “Natürlich kann man hier nicht leben” (Of course you can’t live here), she tells the story of a political escape between Turkey and Germany. At Holzmarkt, you can explore the sea rescue boat “Geo Barents” in the Mediterranean with VR glasses and find out how you can get involved — because solidarity and support are essential, especially in times of crisis. Join us for this important discussion and a time to put your cell phone down for two hours.

VULVA DIVERSITY THROUGH ART — HOW ARTISTS FREE THEMSELVES FROM FEELINGS OF SHAME TOWARDS VULVAS

VULVA DIVERSITY THROUGH ART — HOW ARTISTS FREE THEMSELVES FROM FEELINGS OF SHAME TOWARDS VULVAS

“Um, my vagina doesn’t look like this. One vulva lip is longer than the other.” This blunt observation comes from 17-year-old Aimee Gibbs in the Netflix series “Sex Education” as she holds a teaching model of a vulva in her hands. And this is exactly what Amorelie wants to shed light on with the exhibition Vulva – Diversity through art. Together with sexological bodyworker Iva Samina and curator Julia Meyer-Brehm, it provokes an important discussion because, with four billion women worldwide, diverse representation of vulvas is long overdue. The exhibition is a joint project by Amorelie and Iva Samina. The exhibition is three days long and includes photographs by four artists Jennifer AdlerUte KleinLorelai Wimmer and Jaqueline Louan, which were taken during Iva’s “Vulva Watching” workshops. But it’s not only photographs that await you. There are also vulva sculptures by Vulvarium on display. The exhibition is both artistically inspiring and educational! Amorelie and Iva have also come up with something for your ears. At an audio station, you can be a fly on the wall at one of Iva’s past workshops and listen in, immersing yourself in the atmosphere. In addition, various vulva-related workshops will take place at three other locations. These have been organized by Iva, together with the coaches, and offer you the opportunity to brush up on your anatomical know-how, for example, what the term “body sex” means. There will also be plenty of sensual workshops on offer, including the “Yoni, Cacao and Clay Workshop”. So, if you’re curious, drop by the exhibition and embark on an enlightening journey that delves beyond the surface (of our clothes)!

KEEP DREAMING ABOUT THE FUTURE — DISCOVER YOUR DREAM MASTER’S DEGREE AT ONE OF THE BEST UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD AT THE QS MASTER’S FAIR

KEEP DREAMING ABOUT THE FUTURE — DISCOVER YOUR DREAM MASTER’S DEGREE AT ONE OF THE BEST UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD AT THE QS MASTER’S FAIR

When I finished my Bachelor’s degree, I found myself in a bit of a rut. I didn’t feel ready for the world. I wanted to learn more but I was bored with my average German university. I yearned to pursue a Master’s degree but I wasn’t sure which field of study to pursue. The only thing I knew for sure was I wanted to study somewhere else — to meet new people, discover new interests, and overcome new challenges. In the end, I decided on business in Berlin. The city was new, the people were different, and the coursework was engaging. I came to appreciate and love it all. However, there were times when I wished I had aimed even higher, ventured further, and expanded my horizons and professional development. For those who have not yet pursued their Master’s degree (or are contemplating another), an informational event is scheduled for 12.03.2024. Attending this event will provide the extra ounce of courage needed to travel to destinations like the USA, France, Berkeley, INSEAD, and NUS. QS, the publisher of international university rankings, cordially invites you to the QS Master’s Fair at the Titanic am Gendarmenmarkt, where 25 top international universities will showcase themselves. Admission is free, and the event includes lectures on financing, feasibility, and, best of all, exclusive scholarships for attendees. What better motivation for shaping your dream future?
