INTO THE ALPS WITH ALL YOUR SENSES — THE “FEELAUSTRIA” FESTIVAL BRINGS AUSTRIA TO BERLIN

INTO THE ALPS WITH ALL YOUR SENSES — THE “FEELAUSTRIA” FESTIVAL BRINGS AUSTRIA TO BERLIN

This year, it felt as though summer started in May. Have you also been gazing from the office window at the sun and longing for a vacation, but your planned summer trip is too far away? Why not visit Austria after work? Because, for a short while, it happens to be conveniently located in the heart of Berlin (03.–09.06.2024). “FeelAustria” is a festival held by Alpine Republic with the not-so-secret mission to entice Berliners with a taste of the warm and hospitable Austrian lifestyle. Whether it’s a ceramic painting coursewreath weavingdialect workshophand lettering workshop or beer & breakfast, the festival takes its name seriously: it can be felt and touched, made with your hands, tasted, learned, heard and laughed at. For example, at the literary life performance “Verschwinden in Lawinen” by Robert Prosser, Lan Sticker und Schlagzeug, spoken word and jazzy, hard-hitting beats become a space for recitation; or at the masterclass “Emancipated Vegetable Cuisine” by star chef Sebastian Frank from restaurant Horváth, where vegetables take center stage as a sustainable model for upscale gastronomy. There will also be many opportunities to party: this year’s festival centerpiece is the Fluxbau near the Spree. There will be parties and live performances by Philippa Kinsky and AYMZ — Berlin isn’t the only region to offer diversity in spades!

CELEBRATING THE LEGENDS AND THE LEGENDARY: WARHOL AT FOTOGRAFISKA — THE OPENING PARTY

CELEBRATING THE LEGENDS AND THE LEGENDARY: WARHOL AT FOTOGRAFISKA — THE OPENING PARTY

Celebrating art or the art of celebrating — the Fotografiska event to mark the opening of the Warhol exhibition, this Friday (17.05.2024), is both. The event is called “After the Party” and to view the exhibition appropriately, do so literally “after the party”. First, celebrate at Fotografiska and then come back and look at the photographs of the great pop artist. It’s worth coming to the opening party because the Fotografiska team has put together an impressive program — if you don’t get your money’s worth, you mustn’t have been in the mood to party. The party starts at 8 p.m. and Darwin Stapelwill begin DJing right after the opening speech. This will be followed by a curated program of dance performances in the ballroom by Soulmates. Two more DJ sets (John Agesilas and Kapela Marna) will follow until 4 am. If that’s not enough, then step it up to the next level: The Veronika Bar one floor above also has a program until 4 a.m., with tracks by Daniel Wang b2b Liad Krispin. From vogueing to ballroom, disco and house — the music will make you dance. One thing’s for sure, the house will be full — whether it will be as legendary as in Studio 54 is hard to say (because who was there?), but Fotografiska’s planned program is a good place to start.

45 YEARS OF FASHION AND CULTURE — VOGUE GERMANY EXHIBITION AT GALLERY WEEKEND

45 YEARS OF FASHION AND CULTURE — VOGUE GERMANY EXHIBITION AT GALLERY WEEKEND

Iconic covers, influential features and a whole catalog of era-defining looks – when it comes to fashion and trends, Vogue is hands down the definitive reference. To celebrate 45 years on the frontline of fashion, Vogue Germany is bringing some of its most noteworthy moments under one roof for a pop-up exhibition at Gallery Weekend. The set-up is as follows: select the biggest fashion themes from the past 45 years and show how they continue to shape the zeitgeist. Whether it’s minimalism or body consciousness, the exhibits reveal how ultra-contemporary topics actually have their roots in the pages of Vogue’s past editions. Editorial staff have gone through four decades of archives and selected cover photos and editorials on topics like vintage and circular fashion. In attendance at the two-day exhibition are some of Vogue Germany’s faces who will present garments from their personal wardrobes and share the stories behind them. If you want to make a dedication of your own, you can also get involved in the “Love Letters to Fashion” interactive area. Vogue Collection, the online shop of the magazine, is also in attendance with a pop-up selection of garms to take home. The exhibition takes place at Notagallery on Potsdamer Straße. Expect lots of style history and key moments from 45 years leading the way. Très glam, indeed.

RACE THE U-BAHN TRAINS — LAUNCH EVENT OF THE RADBAHN CYCLE PROJECT UNDER THE U1 IN KREUZBERG

RACE THE U-BAHN TRAINS — LAUNCH EVENT OF THE RADBAHN CYCLE PROJECT UNDER THE U1 IN KREUZBERG

Berlin’s next sport trend? Let’s call it… U-Bahn racing. As subway trains trundle overhead, you zoom off on your bike, free as a bird with a tailwind and safely away from all those pesky cars. The location: the Radbahn, a unique stretch of cycle lane located directly under the U1 railway viaduct in Kreuzberg. We previewed the project back in 2019, and now the people behind it are ready to cut the ribbon (well, almost). Next Thursday (25.04.2024) a trial section of the route between Görlitzer Bahnhof and Kottbusser Tor is launching with a special community event where you can test out the 200m-long cycle lane for yourself. Seventy parking spaces have been cleared to make room for the green-painted lane, which is 3-4m wide and should extend to 9km if fully approved by the city. Besides cycling, the event will also showcase some of the other uses planned for this under-rail haven: areas for doing outdoor fitness, planters for urban greenery, and seating areas for chilling. The aim: make Kreuzberg not just easy to cycle, but more livable too. The Radbahn will officially open at 16h, followed by a guided tour with the creators at 18h. You’ll need to grab your bike and gear up soon – the initial test phase only runs until 15.06. See you on the start line?

ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO! GET READY FOR THE WEEKEND WITH KRAFT RUNNERS AND LULULEMON

ON YOUR MARKS, GET SET, GO! GET READY FOR THE WEEKEND WITH KRAFT RUNNERS AND LULULEMON

Fancy a weekend full of adrenaline, exercise and community? Then get your running shoes out and mark the weekend in your diary for the Kraft Runners and lululemonevent. The event starts on Friday (05.04.2024) with drinks and relaxed beats to get you in the groove at Kraftraum. The actual kick-off follows on Saturday: Pregame! The community get-together starts with a 5k shake-out run and a mobility session to get the muscles going. And as if that wasn’t enough, the unveiling of the Kraft x lululemon race tank and a limited Kraft x Pari streetwear drop will follow — for all the fashion and fitness enthusiasts among us. The highlight is Sunday (07.04.) with Race Day, but before you jump right into it, an aerobics session with Leona Rieck will boost your energy and get you into running mode. Then it’s time to run, cheer and celebrate — Berlin will become a scene of sporting excellence and euphoria! Part of the route will be transformed into a dance floor for the subsequent “Active Dance Recovery”. On Monday (08.04.), we will review the weekend over coffee and freshly made sandwiches and maybe even make new plans — breakfast is on the house if you come along in your running outfit! In short: you can expect days full of sporting challenges, inspiring encounters and unforgettable moments. Even if you’re not running on the track, cheering will be just as much fun.
