ERROR MUSIC FESTIVAL: ELECTRONIC SOUND AND TECH FOR YOUNG PEOPLE — RECOMMENDED BY CHARLOTTE KEHL & JANA MARIA DOHMANN

ERROR MUSIC FESTIVAL: ELECTRONIC SOUND AND TECH FOR YOUNG PEOPLE — RECOMMENDED BY CHARLOTTE KEHL & JANA MARIA DOHMANN

“Error music”. But don’t delete! Take part, even if you are well beyond your adolescence. The project Error Music, launched by producer and singer Yosa Peit together with Acud macht neu and Junge Tüftler, has been creating protected spaces for experimenting with sound and tech explicitly for girls, trans and non-binary kids in Berlin since 2020. This festival is a chance for everyone to poke around in a beautiful, queer world of computing and electronic music. Learn about the pioneers and their tools (like synthesizers or theremins) and see one of the Error Crew performances in the club. Intended for teens, the many workshops held throughout the Acud site offer the opportunity, among other things, to create a track in ten minutes with producer Perera Elsewhere. The documentary Sisters with Transistors is not to be missed, with the wonderful Laurie Anderson as narrator. This good and important project is to be celebrated. Come by and join in – or recommend it to your younger sisters, cousins and neighbors.

LONG LIVE PRINT — DAS WETTER X BLOCK X DIE EPILOG MAGAZINES CELEBRATE AT BRECHT HAUS

LONG LIVE PRINT — DAS WETTER X BLOCK X DIE EPILOG MAGAZINES CELEBRATE AT BRECHT HAUS

Yes, everything these days is digital: we can read, comment and send anything on our little screens. And yet print remains. It’s on the decline, but it still exists. I love print a lot, especially magazines: the turning of the pages, the curled up paper splashed with coffee or bath or pool water, the big photos that seem more real in print and the clever thoughts whose authority grows on the printed page. It’s the pages that can be torn out, sent, put on the wall and wrapped around gifts. It’s the object. The fetish. Everything. Three particularly clever and good examples of independent Berlin magazines are (or – unfortunately – were)  Das WetterDie Epilog and Underdog Block from author Theresia Enzensberger. For ten years these issues decorated shelves, living rooms and WG bathrooms across the city. And rightly so: they assemble literature, art, music, poetry, high and pop culture and lots of photography with wit, freshness, feeling and staying power.

Now it’s time to mark ten years of these publications – of deadlines broken and met. Tonight (13.07.2023) at Literaturforum im Brecht-Haus the editorial teams of the three zines are hosting a celebration and, in the case of Die Epilog, whose very-very-last issue “Kraft” was published in 2021, a deferred farewell. The evening program is wild, and will of course include readings. Jakob Nolte and Teresa Guggenberger, Lynn Takeo Musiol, Paulina Czienskowski and Rudi Nuss will read alongside special guests from Metamorphosenmagazin. There will be drinks from a bar manned by editors and authors, live music and DJ sets, a clearance sale of the publisher’s stock, nostalgia, and lots and lots of conversation. Yes, everything is digital. But really good literature parties can only be had in real life.

THREE’S A PARTY: SEEK X CEE CEE X POOL — PRE-FASHION WEEK DRINKS AT THE CEE CEE CAFE

Hide & Seek? Nope – quite the opposite! Next Monday (10.07.2023) you won’t want to hide yourself away because we’re inviting you to a special warm-up event at the Cee Cee Cafe. Yes: it’s fashion week once again and we want to celebrate it. The Seek and Premium Exhibitions fashion fairs are starting on Tuesday, with shows and performances by fashion designers and labels already starting on Monday. So pick out the most stylish outfit in your wardrobe (or at least the coolest shirt in your clothes pile), bring your BFFs and trusted fashionistas and come say hi. Together with the Seek team and the folks behind local fashion service Pool, we’re serving you a stylish combination of good-looking drinks, distinctive sounds by Animal Deluxe and the natural power of the sun. With this fashion-forward trinity, you’ll have the inspiration you need for the rest of the fashion week. And lest anyone get hungry (or, even worse, hangry), there are crispy tacos from Munchies and summery ramen bowls from Ramen Bonez. So look no further: we’ll Cee Cee you at the pool bar.

BARRIO CUBANO — CUBAN BAR CULTURE COMES TO BERLIN

BARRIO CUBANO — CUBAN BAR CULTURE COMES TO BERLIN

Summer in Berlin: nothing is more memorable than those colorful, lively nights. Tasty food, catchy music, friends and one or two good drinks. The team at Eminente Rum are making sure we’ll be wanting for nothing with the “Barrio Cubano” event series. The brand is set to transform Berlin’s streets into Cuban neighborhoods, stirring up (or is it quenching?) our wanderlust with Daiquiris, Mojitos, Cuba Libres, Cuban street food and Latin American rhythms. The first sundowner is this Friday (30.06.2023) at Kink Berlin before continuing on the rooftop of Grace Bar (26.07.) and at Bonvivant (22. & 23.07). Schönhauser Allee, Kurfürstendamm and Goltzstraße are set to be immersed in the vibrant colors of the island nation – all you need to do is round up your friends. If you can’t make it to the events, you can also organize your own rum hunt with the City Map, where all participating bars and restaurants are listed. If you want to extend the summer beyond that, you can learn the skills you need to host your own party at cool hands-on masterclasses covering Cuban bar culture, the history of rum and, of course, Cuba’s iconic cocktails. For the key ingredient, selected shops are selling limited edition Eminente rum.

SO NICE THEY’VE DONE IT TWICE — GRILL GRILL IS BACK WITH FOOD, WINE & GOOD VIBES

SO NICE THEY’VE DONE IT TWICE — GRILL GRILL IS BACK WITH FOOD, WINE & GOOD VIBES

In the summer of 2022, Sören Zuppke and Clara Higham-Stoianova created the most legendary block parties of the year: The Autogrill Series. Five warm Sundays – each one unique. The delicious sandwiches didn’t cost the earth, and there was wine, DJs and good company. Now Grill Grill is back this Sunday (02.07.2023) welcoming great guests from the food, wine and music worlds. Ash Lee from Chungking Noodles and Sho Miyashita from Paris’s Haikara will provide mouthwatering, spicy sandwiches, accompanied by treasures and the latest vintages from the wine cellars of Justine Loiseau & Patrick BoujuAlanna Lagamba and Martin Wörner. Music will be curated by Refuge Worldwide. Unlike last year, this time there won’t be a series of events — everything will revolve around this one, big, hot day. The location is also new: say farewell to Wilhelm Hallen and hello to Marzahn — specifically the Laboratory for Engines and Aggregates, the perfect setting for this exuberant and special party. The good atmosphere, friendly hosts and uncomplicated food remain the same. So, don’t miss la Vita a Berlino this Sunday! And who knows, maybe we’ll insist on a third one afterwards – because all good things come in threes.
