GRAPHIC DESIGN THAT MAKES AN IMPACT: THE 100 BEST POSTERS ON DISPLAY AT THE KULTURFORUM

GRAPHIC DESIGN THAT MAKES AN IMPACT: THE 100 BEST POSTERS ON DISPLAY AT THE KULTURFORUM

What actually makes a good poster? We constantly try to redefine the criteria – somehow in vain. An interesting typeface? Informative content? An eye-catching color scheme? These parameters are shifted again and again – and it is precisely then that they cause a stir. Maybe that’s what makes a good poster: breaking the rules. Like any other medium, there are posters en masse in the physical (and digital) space. So to stand out, sometimes you have to break out. Every year, a jury of five experts deals with precisely these questions at the 100 Beste Plakate exhibition, which has become a tradition among designers and a fixture of the summer. This year, during a two-day jury session, the best, most eye-catching and most interesting were selected from 2298 submissions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The exhibition kicks off in Berlin, then continues through neighboring countries and on to South Korea and most likely Moldova and Romania. This Thursday (15.06.2023), the winning motifs will be ceremoniously presented in the foyer of the Kulturforum. It will be diverse, animated, challenging, loud, but above all inspiring.

Come by and meet winners, jury members (chaired by Barbara Kotte), the president of the competition, renowned graphic designer and professor Fons Hickmann, students and other fans of this undefinable medium. If you can’t get enough of the posters that evening and are far too busy talking to like-minded people, you should definitely buy the limited edition book on the exhibition, which features selected graphic designers. Well, if those aren’t the (nearly) 100 best reasons to pay a visit!

COMMUNITY, CREATIVITY AND REALLY GOOD COFFEE — JOIN US TOMORROW FOR THE OPENING OF THE CEE CEE (POP-UP) CAFE

COMMUNITY, CREATIVITY AND REALLY GOOD COFFEE — JOIN US TOMORROW FOR THE OPENING OF THE CEE CEE (POP-UP) CAFE

Cee Cee has some exciting news: we are opening a (pop-up) cafe! And not only is it just around the corner from our new studio, but it is probably in the sunniest corner of the city – the perfect location for sipping on a flat white, an iced matcha latte or a cheeky glass of wine. For six months, Cee Cee will take over what you might know as Akkurat cafe, one of our most beloved neighborhood spots. The opportunity came to us by surprise, but how could we resist creating a place to compliment our only-online existence. We want Cee Cee Cafe to be a playground – a friendly space for our community to meet, to realize collaborative projects and discover even more of the people, food, drink and creativity that our city has to offer. The cafe’s great coffee and pastries will stay the same, but from now on you can look forward to brunch (this weekend and in the future), pop-up events and much more!

To kick things off, this Friday (09.06.2023 17–22h) we will have an opening party and we’d love to see you there. Join us for drinks from some of our favorite Berlin providers: cold beers from our good friends at BRLO, fun wines from Nature’s Calling, kombucha from a former Cee Cee designer and now co-founder of Bouche, cooling beverages from LemonAid, non-alcoholic cocktails and wine from The Mindful Drinking Club, and last but not least some spritzes (is it even a summer party if there isn’t spritz?). Hot from the grill, the guys from Munchies will be selling Birria Beef and Veggy Birria Tacos while Crane’s Canteen will be serving up Elotes (Mexican corn) – a delicious cheesy dish the Cee Cee team can’t get enough of right now. Besides cheese (-y corn) we will be serving tunes, sunshine and good vibes. We can’t wait to see you there!

If you want to run your own brunch month, hold a pop-up evening or just want to tell us your thoughts, we’d love to hear from you. The cafe is about community, curiosity and co-creating a summer of delicious fun.

HEAD SOUTH FOR A NIGHT — GREAT EUROPEAN WINES FESTIVAL WITH VINHO VERDE AND FINGER FOOD AT THE ARMINIUSMARKTHALLE IN MOABIT

HEAD SOUTH FOR A NIGHT — GREAT EUROPEAN WINES FESTIVAL WITH VINHO VERDE AND FINGER FOOD AT THE ARMINIUSMARKTHALLE IN MOABIT

They’ve finally arrived. The balmy summer evenings, when there’s nothing to do but enjoy a refreshing drink in one of Berlin’s wonderful locales as you await your summer vacation. One such place is Moabit’s Arminiusmarkthalle. If this were a wine, it would probably be a Vinho Verde. This Portuguese tipple is made exclusively in the hilly hinterland of Porto between the Douro and Minho rivers. There, its flavors thrive with citrus, stone fruit and lush flowers. The Arminiusmarkthalle has been located in the hinterland of Moabit’s Turmstrasse for 132 years. It’s an architectural and culinary gem full of charm, warmth, authenticity and tradition. There are few other places in the city where you can stroll around, people-watch and try new things – like the regular foodie events. A special one takes place next Thursday (06.15.2023): Great European Wines Festival where you can taste, discover and enjoy diverse tipples. Winegrowers from Portugal and Italy will present their wines accompanied by Mediterranean finger food and music by Justin Leone, considered a rock star among sommeliers. What could be better on a wistful summer Thursday? Tickets for your mini-holiday in Moabit are available here.

In a nutshell: time out for your skin and soul! At the Hale. Now Wellbeing Studio in Prenzlauer Berg, there will be a variety of classes offered, including journaling and wellness, Pilates workouts, and Crystal Bowls Sound Baths. If rituals are part of your everyday life, then you should definitely attend the Glow From Within Ritual class with Ella Vey. POP-UPS EVERYWHERE — A SHOPPING TOUR FOR SECOND HAND PIECES FROM JEWELRY TO CERAMICS

POP-UPS EVERYWHERE — A SHOPPING TOUR FOR SECOND HAND PIECES FROM JEWELRY TO CERAMICS

Gradually, the last dark clouds bid farewell to Berlin, and by this weekend we’ll be greeted by summer temperatures – the city is waking up, and so are those who have been spending the cold Berlin winter indoors. There’s no official start to the pop-up season – but there’s one thing we can all agree on: it’s nicer to be out shopping with good weather and a drink in your hand! If you don’t have a trip to the Baltic Sea planned for the long weekend, you should go on a pop-up discovery tour in Berlin. As a starting point you should go to Prenzl-Mitte, where you won’t have to walk far to find several spots. At the new Kink Event Space you can expect minimalist secondhand staples for your closet by Freja, handmade ceramics in natural colors and delicate designs by Claï Studio, curated vintage pieces with a classic yet playful-feminine Scandinavian touch by Versa and jewelry in organic shapes by Berlin-based brand Oni Studio. All this in one of the most beautiful backyards Prenzlauer Berg has to offer. Not far from Pfefferberg and “in the middle of Mitte”, the Hamburg jewelry label Frellini will be visiting Atelier Oblique for another two weeks. Fine, unusual details, playful wearing options and understated classics – Carolin’s jewelry has that certain something, which is why after searching forever for the perfect pearl necklace, I had to have hers. Packed in a velvet pouch, it makes even a warm spring shopping day feel like Christmas.
