PICNIC FM AT ZK/U — LIVE MUSIC AND DJ SETS BROADCAST TO YOUR PICNIC BLANKET

PICNIC FM AT ZK/U — LIVE MUSIC AND DJ SETS BROADCAST TO YOUR PICNIC BLANKET

Want to make the most of the last summer days this weekend? Then grab a blanket and head to the final Picnic FM event this Sunday (19.09.2021). Hosted outside the ZK/U cultural center in Moabit, this free open-air music event has a simple but unique concept: DJs and artists broadcast their tunes via a short-range transmitter, letting you enjoy a music program on a normal FM radio (brought or borrowed) as you lay and snack on your picnic blanket. This Sunday, the communal listening experience will be hosted by three artists. London/Berlin-based cellist Lucy Railton will perform ambient sounds inspired from the hum of everyday life before multidisciplinary artist Mokeyanju takes to the stage with her funky vinyl mixes. Finally DJ and producer Linnéa, whose work supports minorities in dance music, will be spinning some genre-blending futuristic sounds for everyone to groove to. Assemble your fave people, get some tasty snacks and settle down to the chilled sounds (and hopefully some sun!).

AFTER WORK MUSIC SESSIONS WITH A FUTURISTIC AGENDA — DRIVE LIVE NETWORKING LOUNGE

Music and movement go together in endless different ways, but if you want to experience just a few of them, Drive Live might be the event for you. This series of networking get-togethers unites musicians and DJs with the latest mobility tech in a lounge-like environment. The venue for these after-work sessions is the Drive venue in Mitte, which from 16.09.2021 will be the home to an interactive show from Audi that offers a sneak peak at the future of motoring. While the musicians take care of the soundtrack, you are invited to explore the techy exhibits and share your thoughts with your fellow forward-thinking guests. The kick off on 16.09. features beats from DJ Anja Schneider before tech-house producer Sascha Braemer takes over the decks for the second event on 28.10. If the networking part of the series sounds like thirsty work, make sure you pick up your complimentary welcome beverage. With your batteries charged, it’s off to meet a conversation partner so you can start creating your vision for all things future mobility…

FLOATING (UNIVERSITY) BERLIN — A WATER-BASED WORLD OF LEARNING AND EXCHANGE BY THE FORMER TEMPELHOF AIRPORT

FLOATING (UNIVERSITY) BERLIN — A WATER-BASED WORLD OF LEARNING AND EXCHANGE BY THE FORMER TEMPELHOF AIRPORT

They still exist: these independent, surprising and impressive “non-places” in Berlin. A prime example is the rainwater basin at the former Tempelhof airport. Off limits for 60 years, this unique ecosystem opened to the public in 2018 as a “Natureculture learning” site, also known as Floating “University” Berlin. Hidden amongst allotment gardens, this unique place is completely invisible from the street and is entered via a temporary bridge. What you find inside is an enchanted island comprising wooden huts and footbridges leading across the swampy terrain. You would think you were in the middle of the forest were it not for Tempelhof’s radar tower peeking up from behind the trees. The campus was created by architecture collective Raumlabor as a space for experiential learning and transdisciplinary exchange on subjects like art, culture and design.

What was started as a social project by the architects has gone on to be recognized with a Golden Lion at this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale. This week you can visit the place yourself as part of the Climate Care 2021 festival (until 12.09.2021), which features screenings, performances and discussions on topics such as black voices in the environmental movement (screening and discussion with Black Earth Collective and Rahab Njeri, 11.09 19–22h). You can view the full program online, though if you ask us the venue alone makes a visit worthwhile. Enjoyed at sunset, it is one of the most magical places in Berlin.

DISCOVER THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY OVER DRINKS AND BEATS — DRIVE LIVE NETWORKING LAUNCH

DISCOVER THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY OVER DRINKS AND BEATS — DRIVE LIVE NETWORKING LAUNCH

Looking for an after-work hangout with a bit more oomph? For a serving of drinks, music and a vision of the cars of the future, the Drive Live event on 16.09.21 might just be the evening you’re after. Celebrating the launch of a new mobility exhibition, DJ icon Anja Schneider will be filling the Drive space with beats while you take a tour of the newest automotive tech. The event is the first of a four-part series of networking parties to be held at Volkswagen’s Mitte exhibition and event space, which has been showing off whizzy wheels and modern mobility concepts since 2017. For this latest round, car brand Audi has taken over the reins for the worldwide premiere of their latest (top-secret) model alongside interactive exhibits which let you get hands on with cutting-edge motoring technologies. It’s not just about discovery though: being a networking event, you will have the opportunity to engage with fellow guests on everything from sustainable transport and environmental protection to dreams and fears about the digital future. To get the conversation flowing, you will be served a complimentary welcome drink upon arrival with further drinks and snacks available for purchase at the bar. If you want to participate in this special evening, you can register for a ticket online.

BERLIN FASHION WEEK FOR EVERYONE: SIX DAYS OF SHOWS, LABELS, PANELS AND WORKSHOPS

BERLIN FASHION WEEK FOR EVERYONE: SIX DAYS OF SHOWS, LABELS, PANELS AND WORKSHOPS

Whenever I hear the words “Fashion Week” I automatically think of exclusive events to which normal mortals have no access. But Berlin Fashion Week (6.–12.09.21), which this year is being held both online and physically, is quite different. Over six days, more than 40 brands and designers will present their collections for spring/summer 2022 at various locations throughout the city. You can expect more than just a fashion show, however: the program includes events, conferences and panel talks on topics like digitalisation, young talent, sustainability and the circular economy. Exchanging ideas is the name of the game, as the Fashion Open Studio proves. A cooperation with Fashion Revolution Germany, the series lets you take a look behind the scenes at the likes of fashion brand Fade Out Label. Fancy an upcycling session? On 08.09, Anekdot invites you to an interactive workshop in their studio, drinks included. If you’re more in the mood for a shopping spree, make a beeline for the Studio2Retail website, where you will find an overview of sustainable Berlin shops and studios including Malaikaraiss, Zora Auguste and William Fan who are also offering discounts and goodies.

Next up, Neo.Fashion gives you a glimpse into the future of fashion: graduates from 13 fashion universities from all over Germany will present their collections at Alte Münze. BFW always features a premiere, which this time comes in the form of A-Gain Guide, a digital platform from 202030 – The Berlin Fashion Summit which lists local clothing repair and adjustment shops. Meanwhile, taking place all across town is the Reference Festival, an interdisciplinary platform for fashion, art, music, film and culture. At Wood Wood in Mitte you can look forward to the launch of a new collection (06.09.21) plus a performance and exhibition by Selassie. Stop off at the Reference Space in Schöneberg before checking out Disappearing Berlin, a performance and music program at the Schinkel Pavillon and Protopia at the Berliner Bierpinsel (mark 08. & 09.09.21 in your calendar). See you there!
