FOR NOW: POP-UP DINNER SERIES IN SECRET LOCATION FROM VICTORIA ELÍASDÓTTIR

FOR NOW: POP-UP DINNER SERIES IN SECRET LOCATION FROM VICTORIA ELÍASDÓTTIR

I have mixed feelings about pop-up dinners. While I’ve had a few exceptional experiences, others have been downright horrible. When I heard about the new temporary culinary project For Now lead by Victoria Elíasdóttir of Dóttir fame, however, I knew I had to try it. It did not disappoint. Held in an undisclosed private location in Mitte, each dish of the eight-course dinner paired with wine was explained personally by the chef herself, a standard yet valuable practice that makes pop-ups truly unique. From her signature brown butter that accompanies the unexpectedly delicious potato bread, the unorthodox oysters, and the most beautiful and divine pavlova that concludes the evening, every dish was an expression of seasonal delights and prepared with the utmost care. Her feminine and romantic touches were not only pleasing to the eye, but elegantly delivered with fresh, clean and natural flavors. At For Now you can expect an utterly enjoyable time experiencing dishes from a seasoned chef cooking exactly for now: the seemingly brief yet lovely spring-summer season. MILENA KALOJANOV RECOMMENDS: TAG DER ARCHITEKTUR 2019 — NEW ARCHITECTURE IN BERLIN

MILENA KALOJANOV RECOMMENDS: TAG DER ARCHITEKTUR 2019 — NEW ARCHITECTURE IN BERLIN

Year in, year out, the question remains: Does space form the people that use it, or is it the people that form the space around them? This year, the Berlin Chamber of Architecture’s motto is “Räume prägen”: Spaces shape. And because seeing is believing, it’s time to let architects and landscape architects show us their recently completed projects on the 2019 Tag der Architektur (Day of Architecture). All across the city, they’ll be opening the doors to their work spaces for a peek into their practice. For anyone who wants to get an up-to-date picture of contemporary architecture and meet the makers in this field (be warned: the list is extensive!), this is your chance. We are looking forward to visiting some hidden gems: the apartment building “einfach gebaut” (simply built) by Orange Architekten; the office building at Ritterstr. 8 by BCO Architekten; Frizz23, the new project on Lindenstraße by Deadline Architekten and IBeB by IfauHeide & von Beckerath. Our tour comes to an end at the office of Kadawittfeldarchitekten, located in the former “Haus des Reisens” (House of Travel), where we enjoy the view over Berlin and Alexanderplatz. Milena Kalojanov lives in Berlin, loves the sea and dreams of having her own garden. She works in Public Relations, Akquise and Business Development for Zanderrotharchitekten and SmartHoming.

Tag der Architektur 2019: 29.–30.06. 2019, 10–18h

FLOWERS AND EMOTIONS: AN INSTALLATION BY TOLLWASBLUMENMACHEN.DE

FLOWERS AND EMOTIONS: AN INSTALLATION BY TOLLWASBLUMENMACHEN.DE

Flowers are a delight. Watching a peony transform from a peach-colored bud into a salmon-red blossom is itself a great gift you can share with a loved one or just keep for yourself. It’s astonishing what flowers can do: deliver a warm welcome, offer sympathy, express affection and elicit emotions. In short, flowers stir our feelings. The “Wir brauchen mehr Blumen” (We need more flowers!) campaign, started by tollwasblumenmachen.de, seeks to remind us of just that. For those of you with flower fever looking for styling ideas for your next floral arrangement, then check it out in the Mall of Berlin today (20.6.2019) or anytime before Saturday (22.6.2019). The floral designer Björn Kroner has created unique, incredible giant bouquets, and while you never know what mood flowers will put you in, it’s sure to be something between contemplative, cheerful and inspired. CAKE FOR BREAKFAST AND NEW FLORISTRY SKILLS: CHRYSANTHEMUM WORKSHOP AT PRINCESS CHEESECAKE

CAKE FOR BREAKFAST AND NEW FLORISTRY SKILLS: CHRYSANTHEMUM WORKSHOP AT PRINCESS CHEESECAKE

Tuesday is the new Saturday. At least it will be next week, when there will be almost everything you would want for the perfect weekend: flowers, brunch and an exciting activity. At the Charlottenburg branch of much-loved Princess Cheesecake, there will be an exclusive workshop dedicated to all things Chrysanthemum. The name means “gold flower”, after the original color of the blossoms. Today, the floral splendor of the Chrysanthemum is available in a variety of colors ranging from greens to pale peachy hues. The florist Jil knows everything there is to know about the flower and will reveal her tricks for the perfect bouquet. You will then have the chance to arrange a bouquet yourself and at the end bring your very own back home with you. And since learning usually works best after a little refreshment, there will be a brunch provided. Of course, there is no shortage of fantastic cake to be had at Princess Cheesecake – plus anything else you need for the perfect brunch: coconut yoghurt, croissants, some chocolate mousse … If you feel like sharing a few hours with us celebrating the good life next Tuesday (18.06.2019), then write us an email – we’ll be giving away five places for free. Good luck! (Text: Rosa Künzler / Fotos: Princess Cheesecake, Çiya Rädler & Justchrys.com)

TOAST TO THE SUMMER: GREAT EUROPEAN WINES FESTIVAL AT ARMINIUSMARKTHALLE

TOAST TO THE SUMMER: GREAT EUROPEAN WINES FESTIVAL AT ARMINIUSMARKTHALLE

Maybe on your last trip to Portugal you discovered the taste of Vinho Verde: the grapes used to make this light wine with fine aromas of citrus and pome fruit grow only in the countryside surrounding Porto on the green hills between the Douro and Minho rivers. And now you’re standing at a Berlin wine shelf looking for the perfect bottle for a little downtime on the balcony and wondering what your options are. Let the experts at the Great European Wines Festival (20.06.2019) advise you. Here you can have a chat with the winemakers and ask them everything you ever wanted to know about wine – and naturally sample some of the 75 wines available for tasting. All of this takes place in the marvelous atmosphere of the Arminiusmarkthalle with its 15m high ceilings. In addition to Portuguese DOC wines, the event will host Italian vineyards sharing their wines with us. If that doesn’t get you in the mood for your next summer getaway, it’s at least the perfect little trip to Moabit. (Text: Katie Burton / Photos: Arminiusmarkthalle & Mina Aichhorn)
