LOVERS BY THE WATER — FIVE FOOD INNOVATORS HEAD FOR THE RUMMELSBURGER BUCHT

LOVERS BY THE WATER — FIVE FOOD INNOVATORS HEAD FOR THE RUMMELSBURGER BUCHT

If you want to make the most of the remaining summer evenings, there’s a pop-up dinner series made for you: Lovers by the Water. It takes place next week (20.–24.08.2019) in the wonderful location of Cookies Events Studio C, directly on the banks of Rummelsburger Bucht. Food is courtesy of five restaurants at the forefront of Berlin’s gastro scene. Having featured four of the five restaurant crews already, we can say with certainty: It will be delicious! Each day, one of the teams will serve a menu specially created for this series. Caecilia Baldszus, chef of Baldon, will be delighting with regional ingredients including chilli cucumbers and Bohemian dumplings. Victoria Eliasdóttir will be serving up poached oysters with white currants and rosé. The Duc Ngo’s 893 Ryōtei are bringing Nikkei (Japanese Peruvian) cuisine while the team from Cookies Cream will have vegetarian highlights ranging from aubergine with bean ceviche to grilled pineapple with saffron ice cream. Last but not least, chef Dean Sprave of Crackers serves international cuisine with unexpected twists. Which of the five summer evenings will you choose? Get your tickets before they’re gone! FOOD ART WEEK 2019: INSTALLATIONS AND EVENTS EXPLORING OUR UNQUENCHABLE DEMAND FOR WATER

FOOD ART WEEK 2019: INSTALLATIONS AND EVENTS EXPLORING OUR UNQUENCHABLE DEMAND FOR WATER

We all know what our lifestyles are doing to the planet, but how can we get inspired to change our behavior? Artist Tainá Guedes has made it her mission to show you with the Food Art Week festival, which for 2019 explores the subject of water and the environment through almost every medium imaginable: image, video, performance, speech – and yes, food. But the centrepiece of the festival is physical: four greenhouses that occupy Steinplatz in Charlottenburg. These mini exhibition rooms will host a month-long installation and event series, the highlight of which is bound to be the Water Summer Party, where you can immerse yourself in the topic of water conservation through workshops, expert-led panel discussions and music. Running in parallel is the Water(proof) exhibition at Momentum, which includes Janet Laurence’s “H2O: Water Bar”, an interactive display of flasks containing water taken from sources across Germany. The very water we need to protect can be sampled in its delicate natural state – what better motivation to change your way with water. EVENT SPACE FABRIK 23 — RECOMMENDED BY NOEMI DULISCHEWSKI

EVENT SPACE FABRIK 23 — RECOMMENDED BY NOEMI DULISCHEWSKI

When I was invited to peek behind the scenes of Fabrik 23 in January 2019, my heart beat faster – it’s a 100 year old factory hidden in the heart of Wedding. Wandering from room to room, there is so much to discover: meticulously restored workbenches that serve as cooking stations, hand-crafted tables made from old Berlin floorboards, antique church benches and bar tables made from converted gymnastic bars – even a green winter garden with centuries-old terracotta tiles and a fireplace. I could have stayed here forever! It’s not just the beautiful interior that impresses, but also the culinary genius of catering chef Guido Vinci. We were served cremant, fresh oysters on ice and homemade truffle pasta, all at a long table with a DJ in the background. Until now, you could only rent this space for private events, but as of 10.08.2019 a regular Italian Fine Dining event will take place every two months, with changing themes around Italian culinary culture. It’s no doubt the best opportunity to explore this historic building. (Text: Noemi Dulischewski / Photos: Fabrik 23)

After spending 14 years abroad, Noemi Dulischewski returned to Berlin in January 2018. She is the founder of Brünch (see our feature here)

FRÜHSTÜCK 3000: THE BREAKFAST POP-UP THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES

FRÜHSTÜCK 3000: THE BREAKFAST POP-UP THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES

You’re never more than 200m from avocado toast and poached egg. Ever since the first wave of Antipodean cafes brought brunch culture to Berlin, it can certainly feel that way. Enter pop-up breakfast Frühstück 3000. A deliberate response to the ubiquitous avo-based brunch, the series is the creation of former luxury hotel chefs Maxi, Martin and Lukas, whose life’s work is making “Berlin’s Better Breakfast”. The result is a changing four-course menu that does things differently, so expect the unexpected: apple juice and tarragon granita, breaded baked egg, and gluttonously deconstructed banana bread. Whatever menu awaits, be assured it will be comforting enough to tackle the worst Sunday hangovers, yet so innovative and well-constructed that it will stick in your mind long after – provided you don’t go too wild with the unlimited crémant. Next week the F3k disruptors are heading to veggie institution Cookies Cream (11.08.2019), rewriting the Frühstück–rules again – this time meat-free. FOOD FOR THE EYES: AFTER-WORK TOURS & DRINKS AT C/O BERLIN

FOOD FOR THE EYES: AFTER-WORK TOURS & DRINKS AT C/O BERLIN

Food is more than nutrition: we are what we eat, after all. No wonder, then, that the genre of “food photography” is as diverse as our lives themselves, dealing with topics ranging from family, culture and consumption to lust and disgust. If you want to explore the idea of food as an image in a broader context, and not just via #Foodporn on Instagram, come to the after-work guided tour of C/O Berlin’s current show, “Food for the Eyes“. In addition to absurd sausage arrangements by the Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss – a humorous reflection of our relationship to food – pictures from British artist Martin Parr show the relationship between a healthy world and an affluent society. Parallel to this show is the “Contradiction” exhibition, a collection of photographs by Elfie Semotan. A former model, Semotan began her career in front of the camera before changing sides and gaining international attention with collaborations with Helmut Lang, her photographs blurring the line between art and commerce. The tours begin today (18.07.2019) at 19h and 19h30, and to help you digest the works, a drink is of course also offered. (Text: Rosa Künzler / Photos (L-R): Elfie Semotan, David von Becker & Martin Parr)

Tickets are available here and at the box office 30 minutes before the event starts.
