CELEBRATE EXQUISITE JAPANESE CUISINE — BOXES TO GO FROM SHIORI

CELEBRATE EXQUISITE JAPANESE CUISINE — BOXES TO GO FROM SHIORI

Dining in the compact 10-seat restaurant Shiori is a wonderful experience that we recommended to you in 2017. If you haven’t been there yet it is well worth putting it on your list for when restaurants open properly again. In the meantime, you can still experience some truly special cooking with one of Shiori’s to-go boxes, currently available for pickup and delivery. More than just takeaway food, these packages are like a little present – a delicate, handmade visual and culinary surprise which is intended to be savoured. Wrapped in a traditional Korean cloth called Bojagi, the delicate wooden box the food comes in is a joy to open. But it’s not just pleasing to the eye: the food itself is something special. At the restaurant Shiori serves several courses one after the other in Omakase style, where the chef is entrusted with the choice of dishes. At home, our Chirashizushi box was a dazzling, nuanced sensory experience (check Instagram for the latest offerings). All in all, it’s the perfect surprise dinner to treat your favorite person or better still yourself. (Text: Nina Trippel / Photos: Sasha Kharchenko & Sven Hausherr)

Shiori boxes can be ordered by email. Just indicate your delivery date, the number of boxes you would like to order, and whether you want pickup or local delivery.

COOKIES SHOW: FINE DINING DIRECT TO YOUR DOOR

Cookies Cream and its sister restaurant Crackers really need no introduction. Founded by Heinz ‘Cookie’ Gindullis, they are true Berlin institutions. With their doors currently closed, the Cookies team are now bringing their fine dining experience right to your home with Cookies Show. Created by the team’s chefs including Michelin-starred Stephan Hentschel, the unique four-course menu is delivered so you can enjoy it in the comfort of your home – complete with sounds from Cookies’ own DJ. Zero chopping or cooking is involved: all you need to do is heat up and plate the food by following the online video from Cookie himself. And this being Cookies, vegetarians are of course well served and you can accompany your meal with a bottle from their exceptional wine selection. Just place your order by 15h, and your ready-made gourmet feast will be delivered to your door the same evening. The best bit: you can have a candlelit dinner in the privacy of your home while letting top chefs do all the work, leaving you to do what you do best: relaxing and enjoying. SIRONI: DELIGHTFULLY-BAKED PIZZA FROM PRO BAKERS — NOW TO GO

SIRONI: DELIGHTFULLY-BAKED PIZZA FROM PRO BAKERS — NOW TO GO

Editor’s note: Sironi La Pizza will be open for dining again soon – until then you can order their pizza and ice cream for pickup or delivery. The bakery next door is open for the fundamentals too!

Alfredo Sironi has influenced the Berlin bread scene like few others, so we’ll forgive the long wait for him to open his first pizzeria, Sironi la Pizza. The place itself reminds you of an airy reception hall and is brought to life by the warmth of the service. To start, you’ll find a basket of famous Sironi sourdough bread on your table before you get stuck into the starters: a creamy burrata with anchovies and thin chickpea dough pancakes. As for the pizzas, the different varieties come either on a traditional wheat base or a spelt flour version. Toppings aren’t customizable, but you won’t mind: the Wheat Calzone comes with a delightfully bready base and lighter toppings while the Passatello with matured Parmigiano, lemon, mushrooms and rocket makes for a real treat. These are not your classic Neapolitan pizzas, but that’s what makes them excitingly different. To finish, don’t miss out on the homemade pistachio and hazelnut ice cream (currently available to take away) and whilst you’re here try the new Sironi bakery right next door. (Text: Eva Biringer / Photos: Savannah van der Niet)

BEETS&ROOTS — HEALTHY BOWLS FOR A COLORFUL LUNCH

On busy days at the (home)office, it can be easy to forget to plan a tasty, filling lunch. At the Cee Cee office in Mitte, Beets&Roots has long been one of our favorite options for a healthy, hassle-free midday meal that satisfies all tastes. With a selection of healthy bowls, salads and wraps, there’s always something on the menu to match your mood, be it a vegan burrito bowl with smoked bbq tofu and creamy avocado, a spicy falafel wrap or a classic quinoa caesar salad (vegan and gluten-free requirements are well catered for). While the restaurant is currently closed for eating in, you can pre-order for quick pick-up in one of their four locations or get your lunch delivered right to your door within the Mitte area. One more thing: the Beets team is offering a 75 percent discount on orders for hospital workers, caregivers and public officials. We take our hats off. ZOOM FRESH ASIAN MEAL BOXES — RECOMMENDED BY JEPPE CHRISTENSEN

ZOOM FRESH ASIAN MEAL BOXES — RECOMMENDED BY JEPPE CHRISTENSEN

With help from Zoom Fresh in Prenzlauer Berg, you can cook delicious meals at home. They offer 16 different meal boxes that each come with a delicious recipe, with vegan and vegetarian varieties as well as meat. As soon as you’ve chosen a dish from the Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Thai options, husband and wife owners Edward Bae and Hee-Joo Suh go straight to their kitchen and prepare everything for you, cutting the vegetables and gathering spices so everything is completely fresh and ready for cooking at home in just 15 minutes. These boxes are a sustainable, modern meal solution and I was particularly impressed by the quality of the food and the family-run feel of the shop. And here’s the best bit: each time they sell a meal they provide another meal for a child in need. As a father of two small kids and being busy working at Reform, it’s the perfect match for me: all I have to do mix the vegetables, meat and spices in a pan and the meal is ready in a flash – and my kids love it as much as I do!
