CARTOONS, MYSTERY COMICS, ANIME RARITIES AND GRAPHIC NOVEL PICKS — INSTORE AND ONLINE AT MODERN GRAPHICS

CARTOONS, MYSTERY COMICS, ANIME RARITIES AND GRAPHIC NOVEL PICKS — INSTORE AND ONLINE AT MODERN GRAPHICS

Superhero stories, Japanese manga and limited edition action figures stacked as high as the ceiling. In Michael Wießler’s bookshop Modern Graphics on Kreuzberg’s Oranienstraße, you’ll find no shortage of gems from the world of Marvel, DC, Tintin, Asterix and the like. It’s a beautiful chaos that has existed since 1991. If you can’t find the comic you’re looking for or want to browse at home before you buy, Modern Graphics also runs an online shop on eBay. It comes courtesy of eBay Kleine Shops, where you can shop locally online and discover diverse traders from the comfort of your sofa 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you’re looking for that precious Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh! card you’ve been missing or have a nephew’s or cousin’s birthday coming up, you’ll find what you need here.

The physical shop has graphic novels in German and English plus merch from Japan’s Studio Ghibli. And then there’s the comics, which you could easily spend hours reading. There’s appeal for everyone, not just for collectors. In addition to his regular shop in the heart of Kreuzberg, owner Michael has opened two more branches in Berlin: one manga-filled shop at Europa Center on Ku’damm and another in 2016 in Prenzlauer Berg which is focused on French comics, graphic novels and children’s comics. And if you shop online with eBay, you can order special comics from the USA and see the entire range of the three Berlin shops at a glance. Let the deep dive begin!

SCARLET SHOPPING — FASHION, ART AND CULTURE MEET AT 032C’S RUBY RED RETAIL AND EXHIBITION SPACE

SCARLET SHOPPING — FASHION, ART AND CULTURE MEET AT 032C’S RUBY RED RETAIL AND EXHIBITION SPACE

What is 032c? Is it a magazine? An agency? A fashion label? A gallery? An experiment? Or all of the above rolled into one? Founded in 2000 by creative directors Jörg Koch and Sandra von Mayer-Myrtenhain, 032c is, in its own words, a “media and fashion brand for the 21st century”. Its latest venture can be found nestled between Paris Bar and Schwarzes Café on Kantstraße, a street as wild, colorful and storied as the company itself. Looking through the windowed façade, you see plenty of red: designed by creative directors Jörg and Maria Koch in collaboration with Davide Rizzo Architects, the gallery-shop space draws you in with its signature scarlet hue. The exhibition space opened with the capsule collection from label S.R. STUDIO. LA. CA. by Sterling Ruby, offering a platform for artists and creatives from the gallery’s own network. Jörg Koch calls the concept “culture in front, commerce in the back.” Once you pass through the art, you enter an intimate showroom, where the brand’s ready-to-wear styles – as well as archive pieces and exclusive out-of-print magazine issues – take center stage. But this being 032c, there’s more: special events, surprises and a forum for exchange are in the works – yet more bold plans from the many-sided brand.

BLOCK PARTY FOR FASHION FANS: ROTHOLZ SUMMER STUDIO SALE WITH DRINKS AND MUSIC IN POTSDAM

BLOCK PARTY FOR FASHION FANS: ROTHOLZ SUMMER STUDIO SALE WITH DRINKS AND MUSIC IN POTSDAM

Time for a little getaway to Potsdam, where this Saturday you’ll find the Rotholz Studio Sale. This year it’s being styled as a “block party” with free beers from Brlo and Stiftung Hell, a falafel food truck, DJ sets and, of course, minimalist fair fashion pieces. You can get discounts on the current summer collection as well as the opportunity to grab last items and unreleased sample pieces at special prices. Since launching in 2008, the label has been all about conscious fashion and reduced Japanese-inspired design aesthetics that combine well with other items. The straight linen shirts, skirts, sweatshirts, jackets and caps are all made from climate-friendly materials and produced within the EU, with the organic merino wool knitwear produced in Germany. Winter isn’t a million miles away, so why not get that knitted sweater in preparation?

SUMMER DRESSES, VINTAGE VASES & NEW FRAGRANCES — THREE POP-UPS FOR THE WEEKEND

SUMMER DRESSES, VINTAGE VASES & NEW FRAGRANCES — THREE POP-UPS FOR THE WEEKEND

In case you haven’t noticed, we can’t get enough of pop-ups. Allow us to present three more, offering everything from Portuguese summer fashion and extravagant cups to Cypriot jewelry and personalized fragrances. First up is the Reality Studio pop-up, which opens today (21.07.2022) at the Wolfen store in Mitte. There you’ll find a summer collection featuring cooling linen that transports you to Portugal – the location, incidentally, of the label’s headquarters and production. Looking for smart glasses to serve up summer drinks? Then be sure to stop by the Still Life Design pop-up, where you will find vases and vintage glasses that are usually only available online. The pop-up runs today, Friday and Saturday in jewelry label Sister’s shop in Schillerkiez. In addition to design objects, there is also handmade jewelry from Cyprus to try and buy. Finally, it’s time to get fragrant with the likes of “The Dreamer”, “The Lover”, “The Thinker” and “The Traveler”. These perfumes will be available to test and buy next Wednesday (27.07.) at the Apotheke pop-up at Hallesches Haus. Here, Apotheke’s founder will be on hand to treat early bird shoppers to a small perfume and a glass of champagne on the house.
