As a geometric shape, the circle embodies unity, symbolizes perfection and evokes a place of encounter. We may remember this circular form and its meaning from childhood trips to the circus: It was here that the round arena provided a clear view of the events unfolding in front of enthusiastic spectators. On 7 & 8.4.2018, Berliner Festspiele promises to take us back to those days, while showing us what the future has in store for the circus with their “Circus: Die Originale” program. A team of ten researchers and 40 artists from 17 countries have been exploring contemporary circus and its potential to bring together art across different genres, with a view to create new and original formats. Their results will be presented on Saturday and Sunday: Viewers will be able to marvel at fascinating acrobatic performances of the productions “Somnium” by Compagnie MPTA and “Mobile” by Jörg Müller. In addition, there will be an exhibition and audience discussions. To conclude the event, visitors can get moving themselves and dance off into the night to the music of L.I.A.
